My Dell has a i5-1345U CPU stuffed into it. I have 64GB of RAM in the machine.

Spectre and Meltdown seems to be related to speculative execution which I am aware Intel designed to perk up CP performance

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spectre_(security_vulnerability)

The problems affect the Pentium 4 and above, not a good sign. My CPU is slightly more recent but being cynical I am fearful that more problems are likely.

There are many variants of Spectre that had to be mitigated which I believe is why E cores are being used as these can be more easily firewalled.

The P cores are more questionable due to the hyperthreading design that has been at fault in earlier processors.

I have looked at many vulnerability issues driven by fear of ransomware and worse

The speculative execution goes back to the days of the Pentium and the Netburst design.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/kb4457951-windows-guidance-to-protect-against-speculative-execution-side-channel-vulnerabilities-ae9b7bcd-e8e9-7304-2c40-f047a0ab3385
