Intel Processor i9-14900K Temperature Concern

Hello Intel Community,

I recently built a high-performance workstation for my engineering simulations, specifically for ANSYS meshing and thermal analysis. However, I’ve been facing a critical issue where my Intel Core i9-14900K processor reaches 100°C whenever I run meshing operations in ANSYS. Strangely, despite the extreme temperature, the CPU utilization and memory usage do not hit 100%, yet the temperature spikes to the thermal limit almost immediately. My concern is that utilizing ANSYS meshing commonly takes up to several hours and sometimes to days hence will this prolonged high temperature will cause my processor to damage.

Questions for the Community & Intel Experts:

Is this temperature behavior normal for the i9-14900K under such workloads?
Could BIOS settings or Intel power limits be affecting temperature and performance?
Is there a known issue with ANSYS meshing operations on Raptor Lake processors?
Any recommendations for optimizing thermal performance while ensuring maximum efficiency?

I have attached my system specs, test results, and Intel XTU data for reference. Any insights or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

1) Is the issue (getting high temperature) only happening with this specific application *ANSYS meshing and thermal analysis or there are other applications affected by this behavior?

2) May I know where to download this software/application (we may need this for issue replication).

To answer your questions below:

Is this temperature behavior normal for the i9-14900K under such workloads? Yes, especially if it is a high-CPU demand application/software. But I'll check on this further.
Could BIOS settings or Intel power limits be affecting temperature and performance? *Let me check on this internally and will share update once available.

Regarding the question:

Answer: Currently only witness such behaviour during the meshing operation as the purpose was solely of this desktop was solely to run simulational studies. Regardless of that, common operation such as utilizing browser and working on documentation work do not exceed the CPU performance by 10%, and temperature fluctuate about 40 to 50 °C.

2) May I know where to download this software/application (we may need this for issue replication).

Answer: the ANSYS software was install through institute licensing and was done by institute's lab assistant. Hence i do not have much information to disclose on that.

Let me share the following information below that answers your questions:

While high-performance CPUs like the i9-14900K can handle high temperatures, consistently reaching 100°C is not ideal. Intel CPUs have a thermal design power (TDP) and a maximum junction temperature (Tjmax), which is often around 100°C. However, operating at this limit for extended periods can lead to throttling and reduced performance.
There might not be specific known issues with ANSYS on Raptor Lake processors, but software optimizations and compatibility can vary. Ensure that you are using the latest version of ANSYS and that all patches and updates are applied.
Ensure that your cooling solution is adequate. High-performance CPUs often require robust cooling, such as high-end air coolers or liquid cooling systems. Check that your cooler is properly seated and that thermal paste is applied correctly.
Improve your case airflow by adding or optimizing the placement of fans. Ensure that there is a clear path for air to flow through the case, removing hot air and bringing in cool air.
Regularly clean your system to prevent dust buildup, which can impede cooling efficiency.
Ensure that your power supply unit (PSU) is adequate for your system's power requirements, as insufficient power can lead to instability and increased heat

Based on the SSU file you shared, here's what I can suggest to address the high temperature your system is getting high temperature:

1) Contact your system manufacturer support team to get assistance on updating your BIOS firmware to the latest version (10.02), as the latest version have the following enhancements below, and to get help on applying the Intel Default settings:

Update Intel Microcode.
Fix Auto Driver Installer Function.
Improve memory compatibility.
