Hello,

I am experiencing an issue with my Intel Core i9-14900KF processor. When the system is idle, it automatically closes all applications, such as the browser, Discord, and low-demand games. However, if I launch a demanding game and minimize it, I can use YouTube and other applications without them being forcibly closed.

I have already tried adjusting the processor settings based on MSI's recommendations, but unfortunately, these adjustments did not resolve the issue.

https://ru.msi.com/blog/improving-gaming-stability-for-intel-core-i9-13900k-and-core-i9-14900k

My system configuration:

Processor: Intel Core i9-14900KF

Motherboard: MSI MAG Z790 MAX Wi-Fi (BIOS 7E25vA8)

RAM: G.Skill 7200MHz

GPU: ASUS ROG Strix RTX 3090

Hello Dean,

Thank you for your response.

I have already updated my BIOS to the latest version. I also tried undervolting the processor, which improved stability during low-performance tasks. However, for high-performance workloads, I experienced performance drops of 20-30%.

Additionally, I am unable to update Windows to version 11—during installation or updating, the system simply reboots.

Do you have any other recommendations to resolve these issues?

Best regards,

VirusB

Hello! In the updated BIOS version "7E25vA8," a gaming mode was added. I enabled it and manually set the CPU VR voltage to 1.28V instead of Auto. As a result, my PC is now fully operational again. The frequency is stable at 4.8 GHz, which is great.

If you have any recommendations on how to adjust the BIOS settings to achieve a frequency of 5.2-5.5 GHz while maintaining stability, I would appreciate your advice. Let me know if it's convenient for you to share your insights.

Hi VirusB,

Regarding your inquiry about achieving a frequency of 5.2-5.5 GHz, it's important to note that the CPU's ability to reach higher speeds can vary significantly based on workload and system conditions. While some CPUs may achieve these frequencies under certain circumstances, it is not guaranteed for all workloads or configurations.

Just to add, As a general best practice Intel recommends users adhere to Intel Default Settings on their desktop processors.  Intel is not changing the tuning capabilities of existing K sku processors.  Users who desire to overclock or utilize higher power delivery settings than recommended can still do so at their own risk as overclocking may void warranty or affect system health (learn more at Overclock Your CPU with Unlocked Intel® Processors - Intel).

I recommend proceeding with caution and prioritizing system stability over raw frequency gains. If you have any further questions or need assistance, please feel free to reach out.

Best regards,

Hi VirusB,

To help improve system stability, I recommend checking the following link: Improving Stability of 13th/14th Gen Intel Core Processors.

If you are experiencing instability even under low workloads, this may indicate a defective processor. Our standard troubleshooting steps for instability include updating the BIOS and setting it to "Intel Default settings." If the problem persists after these steps, there is a possibility that the processor is faulty, and we can offer a replacement.

Additionally, if you are unable to locate certain settings in the motherboard configuration, you can contact MSI for further assistance with additional settings. You can reach MSI support through this link: MSI Support.

Best regards,

Dean R.

Intel Customer Support Technician
