As you already know the BIOS download for the ASUS PRIME Z790-P WIFI is a zip file called PRIME-Z790-P-WIFI-ASUS-1813.zip. Unzipping the file produces a BIOS update file and a utility called BIOSRenamer.exe. Double click BIOSRenamer.exe to run it in a DOS box, then press any key to continue. This will rename PRIME-Z790-P-WIFI-ASUS-1813.CAP to PZ790PW.CAP. The BIOS update will work with the renamed file. This is what the "This is not a proper BIOS" message means but as ever with error messages what it says and what it means are two different things.

So the Intel support engineers can have more information about your system, Please download and run the Intel System Support Utility (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility-for-Windows- ) for Windows. Select all data categories and then have it generate a report. Next, have the tool Save the report to a text file (don't try to use the Submit capability; it doesn't work). Finally, using the Drag and drop here or browse files to attach dialog below the edit box for the body of your response post, upload and attach this file to the response post.

Doc (not an Intel employee or contractor)
[W10 is this generation's XP]

What's happening here is that you need to update the ASUS BIOS and some associated drivers. The Intel utility does not work for these but there is a reasonably simple way for you to carry out these updates using ASUS DriverHub.

ASUS DriverHub is a web based utility that can be found at https://driverhub.asus.com/en . This page will initially scan your system to verify that you have ASUS hardware. It will then offer a download which is a download of the ASUS DriverHub Windows App. Install and run the App - you will get the scanning message again and it will send you to the web page where there should be an Available Updates tab.

The Available Updates tab will include a whole list of things, some of which you should not need. This includes Intel Rapid Storage software, AI Suite 3, Norton 360 and WinRAR.

The rest will be items that you should select to install and installing them should solve your problem.

Hello,

Thanks for the response! I did what you stated however & this didn't seem to fix the issue. I'm still getting the pop-up upon logging into the game.

There was about 5-6 updates to install which I did & ignored the ones suggested by you which were also there (AI Suite 3, Norton, WinRar, etc.)

I can't specifically recall which I had downloaded as I didn't type/write them down...but I am showing no other updates on ASUS DriverHub itself. Below is the pop-up I am still getting when entering into the game.

Sincerely,

There are two issues here.

The warning message from World of Warcraft is because you are not using the latest BIOS from ASUS. I have established that ASUS DriverHub only does drivers, it does not update the BIOS.

Updating the BIOS is covered by the detailed advice from ASUS that can be found here .

The ACCESS_VIOLATION crashes in World of Warcraft seems to be a known issue. Some sources say they are driver related but you have updated your drivers and presumably restarted your PC so that seems less likely. The NVIDIA driver is the latest I take it.

One of the issues with Corsair Pre-built machines like yours is that the advice is to use the standard ASUS drivers because you have an ASUS motherboard. And Corsair support the use of some of the ASUS utilities such as Armory Crate.

So I am inclined to say that you probably should contact Corsair support and see what their advice is.

As you already know the BIOS download for the ASUS PRIME Z790-P WIFI is a zip file called PRIME-Z790-P-WIFI-ASUS-1813.zip.

The USB key has to be formatted in FAT32 format, a quick format will not do the job so could you try doing a full format, putting the BIOS file on it and trying again.

EDIT: There are conflicting sources about whether a standard ASUS BIOS can be used to update an ASUS motherboard in a Corsair pre-built system. One source says that Corsair locks the BIOS and only a Corsair sourced BIOS update file can be used. If this is correct this could be another reason for the not a proper bios file message, although a more precise error message would have been helpful.

There is a web page on the Corsair site that covers BIOS updates for your system that can be found here and if the BIOS locking situation is correct then this is the only way to update the BIOS.

he only issue is that I hope that Corsair have got a BIOS update that contains the final 0x12B microcode as that's the one needed to clear the World of Warcraft error message about microcode versions. Corsair do offer a separate Intel microcode update file for your system which is dated September 2024 and would be the correct time period for 0x12B. You would have to ask Corsair support about this if necessary.

So I was able to find the BIOS download & looked to be the proper 0x12B. After going through with the update it finally worked and went through but then it said it was resetting my PC.

When it did so the power button began rapidly flashing & slower after awhile but my monitors weren’t showing anything. I waited about 15 minutes before turning off the PC for about 5-10 minutes & when I turned it on again the same thing happened.

What do I do now? Nothing is showing onto my monitors but my PC is on along with the monitors themselves.

EDIT: Took a few tries of turning it on & off between 5-10 minute intervals but it finally booted up properly. I double checked the system to ensure the BIOS was updated & sure enough it was. After doing so I attempted to get on World of Warcraft & for the first time I didn't receive the popup notification! Not wanting to jinx it so knock on wood but I believe this helped with my issue. I'll be test playing multiple games to see if any crashes or the like occur & go from there.

Thank you so much @pressed_for_time for all the assistance & patience with me!

Sincerely,

EDIT 2 (Not even 5 minutes later): Experienced 2 crashes back to back with the below, what do I do...
