I've spent over 40 years trusting, admiring, and getting genuinely excited with every new flagship processor from Intel. From the legendary 8086, through the iconic 486, Pentium, and the early i3, i5, and i7—each one marked a milestone, breaking standards and making the world faster, more reliable, and more innovative.

But I must say, the Intel Core i9-13900K has been deeply disappointing. I've replaced it twice already, and even with a high-end ASUS Maximus motherboard, I'm still facing unexpected shutdowns and failures running even the simplest games. For a company like Intel, that's simply unacceptable.

What I feel is frustration and anger—but mostly, sadness. Intel used to be synonymous with reliability, power, and progress. Today, it feels like that essence is gone. It’s not just a technical issue—it’s emotional. The authenticity, the spirit that once made Intel so unique, seems lost in the pursuit of something more commercial, less genuine.

I sincerely hope you find your way back. I hope the future brings back the spark that made Intel a true industry icon.

Thank you for everything you’ve done. I truly hope we’ll see each other again soon… like we used to.

hey mate,,,

If your system keeps randomly shutting down while it's running, there are a few things you can try. First, make sure your motherboard BIOS is up to date if you're not sure how, reach out to your board manufacturer for help with the update. It’s also worth testing with a different power supply, memory (RAM), or even motherboard if you have access to spares. Some CPUs don’t have built-in graphics, so you might need to install a dedicated video card to get everything working properly. This is also a possible sign of CPU mitigation. you can view this url below:

https://community.intel.com/t5/Blogs/Tech-Innovation/Client/Intel-Core-13th-and-14th-Gen-Desktop-Instability-Root-Cause/post/1633239

If you've already tried replacing the CPU and it still shuts down right after booting, double-check your CPU fan and heatsink installation improper cooling can cause the BIOS to force a shutdown to prevent overheating. If your system reboots at random, try simplifying your setup: disconnect unnecessary components and test with one stick of RAM, a known good power supply, and a display. Load your BIOS defaults just to rule out misconfigurations. Also, make sure your PSU has enough wattage to handle your system under load. Run a memory test using something like Windows Memory Diagnostic or MemTest86, or swap in known-good RAM if you can. If overheating might be the issue, check your system temps and cooling setup this is a common cause of shutdowns. Lastly, look through your Windows Event Log to see if any warnings or errors pop up around the time of the shutdowns. And if you're getting any blue screen errors (BSOD), Intel has a guide specifically for those cases that can walk you through the next steps.

CPU Shutdowns and Restarts

Computer Randomly Reboots or Shuts Down

hope it helps you...

Hi!

I imagine after more than 40 years of using Intel CPUs, like myself, you know just fine your way around fault diagnosis, through such obvious, but eminently sensible, things to eliminate as bios updates, RAM & PSU stability and even maybe trying different mobos. Especially as you're now on a THIRD 13900K that's giving you stability problems. "Trying to teach Grandpa to suck eggs" is an expression which comes to mind.

Going though all of that, is, more to the point, a lot of faffing around to try to avoid seeing the elephant in the room when it comes to these Raptor Lake processors.

I'm seeing a lot of stability problems, here, in the tech press, and on social media.

I'm seeing customers here on this forum who have purchased the flagship 14900K encountering these sort of issues and complaining about getting the brush off from Intel Customer Support in Brasil.

I'm seeing reports of processors which literally self destruct because of what was finally declared to be a firmware error which enabled them to run over-voltage. I'm seeing suggestions in the media about which bios settings to adjust so you can protect your fragile little CPU from its own design faults.

I'm seeing a revised firmware version is available, though there is to this date, apparently, no way to identify which are the old and defective models and which are the revised firmware versions of affected processor ranges.

Thankfully as a prompt solution to this potential IBM Deathstar moment in Intel's history, I'm seeing a generous response from Intel who have decided to increase their whopping TWO year warranty for affected processor ranges up to a massive FIVE years. Provided they were bought directly from Intel.

Like yourself, I'm looking on with a degree of bemused and disappointed incredulity at this point to which Intel has de-evolved. Intel have always been the purveyors of premium priced products offering premium quality. Robust, stable and reliable processors.

I'm needing to upgrade at the moment. My utterly dependable i5 9600K is just too long in the tooth now, but buying and installing a CPU involves a LOT more work and expense than just getting a box with the Intel logo.

I was considering the i9 14900K this time around but I'm afraid have lost all confidence in this Raptor Lake product range. It's a shame, especially as I'm no fan of AMD.

Like you, I do hope Intel relinquish their embrace of the dark side of the force and find their way back to producing dependable, trustworthy and reliable processors that they are proud of, and back up with proper support.

All the best!

Thank you very much, AlphaTop89, for your response. But... as you can imagine, I’ve already tried every possible change and test — even swapped the motherboard, memory, and power supply.

For me, it was unthinkable that my brand-new Intel CPU could be the issue. Nothing like this has ever happened to me — not since my very first 8086!

Since the latest BIOS update this past March, things seem to have stabilized. However, the same thing happened with the 2025 update: everything worked fine for a couple of months... until the problems returned.

So, even though I’m now able to write this message without CPU-related crashes, the trust is broken. I can’t be sure when — or with what software — the issues will come back.

As StefanMacz pointed out, I’ve never really been an AMD fan... but after this disappointment, I think it’s only fair to give them a chance for my next build.

Thanks again for the support — and best regards to all.
See you around.
