Processor / Motherboard Upgrade

My current processor is not supported by Windows 11. I'd rather upgrade my processor (and motherboard if need be) rather than getting a new computer. I have no performance issues at all, even though it's about 14 years old. I've included system information in pictures and would like processor / motherboard recommendations, if upgrading would be feasible/reasonable.

You have a 2nd gen processor. You might be able to upgrade to a 3rd gen processor.

But that does not help with the W11 upgrade issue.

You really need newer hardware. I suggest a system with an 8th gen or later processor, and really even an 11th gen processor or greater.

Your current system has no salvagable components, so you are looking at new memory, new storage, new cooling, new power supply. etc.,

Sorry, but that is the way it is with such old hardware.

Sorry to paint such a bad picture for your upgrade hopes. Now, if you want to "try", consider this:

Find a 3rd gen processor for your motherboard. Before you do that, upgrade your bios (attached).

Then, upgrade to W11 using option 2 in this post:

Make sure you read the post carefully. This will get you up and running on W11. How long Microsoft will allow it is the question.

Also, which 3rd gen processor? I see 3 of the i7-3xxx here that are compatible.

i7-3770s, i7-3770, i7-3770K, plus a lot of i5-3xxx I saw a i7-3770 on that auction site for $10. Of course, buyer beware.

Also, if you are successful in the processor upgrade and then the w11 upgrade, and you have a few dollars more to spend, you might want a later nvidia graphics, a 1060 perhaps, which still has driver support from nvidia.

Many thanks for the info AlHill. I'm really not surprised or disappointed, knowing the age of my rig. I'll look at the bios/3rd gen. possibility but it seems like it'll be a couple year band aid at best. I consider myself lucky I've gotten 14 years out of my current computer. It's probably time.

No problem. I have done the W11 upgrade on a 3rd gen machine. I woule like to try it on a 2nd gen machine. So, if you have a good backup system, and feel like experimenting, give option 2 a try on your machine.
