It’s the new BIOS from July. Unfortunately, I can't find a clear patch note either on my motherboard’s website or on Intel's site that explains what it actually does. There’s only a generic description about improved stability, but I’d like to know more specifically: does it increase voltage? Lower it? What exactly does it change?

(Lga 1700)

Hi Davu,

Thank you for reaching out to Intel Customer Support regarding your inquiry about the recent BIOS update.

To better address your concerns, could you please provide the exact model of your motherboard? Additionally, if you have experienced any issues with your CPU, please let me know so we can explore potential solutions.

Regarding the BIOS update, Intel has released a new microcode update (0x12F) that supplements the previous 0x12B microcode update. This update aims to improve system conditions that may contribute to Vmin Shift Instability on Intel Core 13th and 14th Gen desktop-powered systems. The update does not alter the root cause determination for the Vmin Shift Instability issue.

Based on testing, Intel has identified no measurable performance impact with the 0x12F microcode update. Intel recommends users ensure they have the latest BIOS updates installed and utilize the Intel Default Settings profile in their BIOS to mitigate Vmin Shift Instability risk.

For more detailed information, you can refer to the following link: Intel Community Discussion on Microcode Update.

If you prefer a faster communication method, please let me know if a phone call would be more convenient for you. I am available to discuss this issue at your earliest convenience and provide further assistance.

Thank you for your cooperation and patience. I look forward to resolving this matter efficiently.

Best regards,

Dean R.

Intel Customer Support Technician

Dune Awakening - CPU Warning

I have an error pop up on my system stating:

Your processor may be affected by a known Intel hardware issue

Your processor (13th Gen Intel (R) Core (TM) i9-13950HX is an Intel 13th / 14th generation CPU affected by a know hardware defect (Intel "Vmin Shift Instability") that Intel mitigates with a microcode update delivered through motherboard BIOS updates.

The installed CPU microcode (0x113) is older than Intel's fix (0x12F), Running with the old microcode causes permanent, irreversible damage to the CPU, which leads to crashes in this and other games.

Please update your motherboard BIOS as soon as possible. If the game already crashes on startup, contact Intel about a replacement.

A link at the bottom says "Read Intel's Statement on the 13th/14th gen processor instability" which takes you to.

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000102331/processors.html

My laptop is a MSI Raider GE68HX 13VG and the current bios update appears to be E15M2IMS.113 according to their website. I have already performed the BIOS udpate.

How do I resolve this issue so my CPU is not damaged in my laptop?

Mike

The Vmin Shift issue only applied to some 13th and 14th gen desktop processors, specifically the K, KF and KS models. This was resolved by microcode and BIOS updates some time ago, by the Autumn of 2024 in most cases. So this is an old issue which on updated systems should not now cause any error messages to be generated.

Your laptop i9-13950HX processor is not affected by these issues.

The firmware (12F) referred to is a desktop firmware. "The installed CPU microcode (0x113)..." is in fact the most recent release for your laptop and BIOS E15M2IMS.113 is the latest available. There is no question of this firmware causing any issues with your machine and the whole contents of this error message can be ignored

The software generating the error message seems not to have identified your CPU correctly. I assume that this is a game of some sort. It might be worth notifying the developers of the game about this issue.
