Upgrade Q8200 to Q8400?

I have a Dell Studio 840 with Dell mobo "0M017G A00". Currently it has a Core2Quad Q8200 CPU. Unfortunately, I need hardware virtualization to use VMWare for testing OSX. Can I do a direct replacement with a Q8400 and expect success? Does anything else need to be done?

Since you have a DELL* system I would recommend contacting them so they can provide you a list of supported processors for your DELL* system.

Keep in mind that the compatiblity between the motherboard and the processor is determined by the system manufacturer, not by the processor manufacturer.

Thanks, Adolfo. But, as you can probably guess, Dell's help is non-existent for this issue. They sell computers, but not much support afterwards.
