IM a bit confused. what is better? QX9650 or Q9650

my motherboard supports both but i cant tell the difference. and i wanted to upgrade to a quadcore. im very handy but not upto date on the technology. is the Qx a quad core?

They are essentially teh same CPU, apart from the the QX has an unlocked multiplier, whilst the Q has VT.

The questions you should ask yourself are:

Do I plan to over-clock on Water or Phase (N2, R44)?

Do I plan on spending $70+ on very high end air cooler?

If the answer is no to them get the Q9650. If it's yes to ether get the QX9650.

They are the same chip and die, slightly different firmware. The difference is the over-clock ability. The QX can easily hit 4Ghz but you need to dump 125+W of heat.

TY thats what i thought. i dont think ill over clock im goign to get the reg quad core..

is n2 and r 44 refrigerants? im a sheetmetal worker and build my own comp. but never had any but air cooled.

N2 or N2 refers to liquid nitrogen.

R-44 is a typo meant to be R-404, a refrigerant blend preferred by extreme phase change overclockers due to its -46.5° boiling point one of the lowest available that is compatible with off the shelf compressors.

Go with the QX9650 , it has unlocked multiplier , So if you do want to raise the clock it is much easer and you don't have to raise the FSB much. I have one running at 3.8 for about a year now stays at 44C stable and fast . New ones are hard to find But they are still around for $ 260.00 . where you are going to spend about $325. for a new Q9650.

I don't mean to confuse you , But you have to understand , Intel stoped making the QX9650 two years ago , they still make the Q9650. That is why the QX9650 are SO Sought after . They can be had at places like Ebay new for about $260.00 new If you look around and fine someone you can trust . The Q9650 Retails for about $325.00 in sttores. That in and of it self makes the QX9650 a much better choice if you can get a good one .
