Hi, I got a new gaming PC a few days ago, it has an Intel Core Ultra 9 285k. My problem is that almost every time I start a game, I get the error message: clock watchdog timeout 0x101. What can I do about this? I didn't buy such a powerful PC for nothing. Now I just can't play anything because this problem keeps happening. Thanks for your help.

I just tested it with two games. Yesterday I was able to play one without any problems, but with the other, it happened after about 10 minutes. A few days before that, it always happened after about 2 minutes with both games.

It doesn't stutter; it just suddenly freezes, and then that's it. I'm not sure if the chipset is up to date; I'm not sure how to update it. The graphics card is definitely updated, but I'm not sure about the BIOS. I did all the updates right after I got the PC.

The processor and everything else is running at default settings; nothing has been changed.

My motherboard is an MS-B9211, and the BIOS version is the latest one I can get from MSI. I've already checked that.

I haven't noticed any high temperatures or damage.

Until just now, I hadn't done anything because I wasn't sure what the right thing to do was.

So that CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT (0x101) error basically means one of your CPU cores stops responding for a moment. No warning, no stutter it just dips out and the system freezes. Annoying as hell, especially on brand-new hardware.

The best move now is to update your chipset and Intel ME drivers from the MSI support page, then double-check (and even reinstall) the latest BIOS for your MS-B9211 board to make sure the CPU microcode is fully up to date. After that, reset your BIOS to factory defaults just in case any auto-overclock or hidden tuning got enabled, and make sure Windows is running on either Balanced or High Performance instead of a custom profile. Once that’s done, try launching your games again and see if the behavior changes, since the timing of the crash jumping from 2 minutes to 10 minutes means we need to test step-by-step. If the issue keeps popping up, report and file a warranty to this site so intel will see it.

That’s the last thing you wanna see on a fresh beast of a PC, especially with an Intel® Core™ Ultra 9 285K. You definitely didn’t drop that money just to get kicked out of every game. what BIOS version you running? That CPU’s brand-new, so some boards need the latest firmware just to behave. And did you already try loading “Optimized Defaults / Intel Default Settings” in the BIOS?

That 285K is hungry, so weak power delivery can trip errors easy. And did you grab the newest chipset + ME drivers from your motherboard’s support page?
