Hello steveb-online,

Thank you for the quick reply.

I tried to search for your board and found that you can also download RST in its download site. It is under SATA RAID/AHCI.

Try to check the drivers:

https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/X299-UD4-Pro-rev-10/support#support-dl-driver-sataraidahci

If you have questions, please let us know.

Newbie problem.

I had RST driver version 17.9.1.1009

I used the GUI for creating a RAID array. I do not have Optane memory.

Just upgraded using setuprst.exe

Upgrade was reported as successful, but I failed to note the new version number before the PC rebooted

Reboot went OK

Now I appear to have lost the GUI that I used to create my RAID array.

I looked at the Apps on my Windows 10 installation and Intel Rapid Storage v 17.7.0.1006 is reportedly still there!

- I assumed that would have been uninstalled during the upgrade?

I also cannot find any GUI to manage the RAID volume.

Is there a revised Windows 10 app that I need to install, perhaps?

Any suggestions welcomed, please, as I found the original GUI very useful to maintain and monitor the RAID volume.

Steve B

PC Specialist LTD Intel X299

Bios

Version F7a

Date 10/3/2019

Motherboard

Manufacturer

Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.

Model X299 UD4 Pro-CF

Version .x

Operating System

Edition Microsoft Windows 10 Pro (64-bit)

Version (Build) 22H2 (10.0.19045)

Processor

Intel® Core™ i9-9900X CPU @ 3.50GHz

Networking and I/O

TAP-NordVPN Windows Adapter V9

Intel® Ethernet Connection (2) I219-V

OpenVPN Data Channel Offload

Nlwt Tun

Memory

64 GB

Storage

Intel Raid 1 Volume

ST1000DM010-2EP102

TOSHIBA External USB 3.0 USB Device

ST1000DM010-2EP102

Looking at Device Manager RST premium controller is stated V 17.11.3.1010 (25/11/2022)

Not sure if that is relevant to the situation, and...

Also IRST no longer appears in the Task Bar

Thanks for the reply and apologies for the delay (been away)

In answer to your questions:

Who configured the RAID before?
The RAID (RST v17.9.1.1009 ) was installed by the system builder (PCSpecialists) about 5 years ago.

Where did you downloaded the Rapid Storage Technology with GUI before?
Pre-installed by PCSpecialists. The GUI was branded Intel and was for RAID and Optane memory

What is the RAID volume that you created and is your OS installed there?
RAID 1 using 2x1TB SSD drives.
Yes the OS is installed on the RFAID

Do you have a data back up?
Yes

I am reluctant to roll-back any of the OS because of the inherent risks which may compromise what is a stable system ATM>

This is the GUI I was talking about. This is a stock image NOT from my PC (may not be the same verision either, just this style)

This GUI RAID web console?) was live until I used setuprst.exe.

As I mentioned in the original post, the Apps on my Windows 10 installation and Intel Rapid Storage say v 17.7.0.1006 is reportedly still there, so setuprst.exe didn't do a great job.

Any diagnostics that IU can run to establish the current RAID status and software may be a good start?

Thanks for the help

Hello steveb-online,

Thank you for providing detailed information about your RAID setup and the issues you've encountered with Intel Rapid Storage Technology. It appears the RAID configuration and initial installation were handled by PCSpecialists, utilizing RAID 1 with two 1TB SSD drives for your OS. It's good to hear you have data backups in place.

Regarding the GUI you mentioned, it seems setuprst.exe didn't update to the expected version, leaving the Intel Rapid Storage software at version 17.7.0.1006. To diagnose the current RAID status and software, you can run diagnostics within Intel Rapid Storage or check the RAID status through your system BIOS. I'd like to know the RAID status in Intel Rapid Storage or BIOS.

Let me know if there's anything else I can assist you with.

Von M.

Intel Customer Support Technician

Hello steveb-online,

Thank you for the quick reply.

I tried to search for your board and found that you can also download RST in its download site. It is under SATA RAID/AHCI.

Try to check the drivers:

https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/X299-UD4-Pro-rev-10/support#support-dl-driver-sataraidahci

If you have questions, please let us know. Thank you.

Best regards,

Michael L.

Intel Customer Support Technician

Thanks for the suggestion.

TBH I am very reluctant to change the motherboard firmware in this instance, with the inherent risk involved.

The loss of RST functionality is the direct consequence of using Intel's update tool (setuprst.exe).

The desired solution is to get the Intel software products correctly uninstalled (if necessary), reinstalled and working.

Your directions would be appreciated.

Hello steveb-online,

Thank you for the quick reply.

Okay, let me further explain. It is good that you have an updated data back up so that incase there will be an issue, you can just re-create everything and load the data back up.

I understand your hesitation at the moment, however let me also add that OEM manufacturers can alter, enhance or modify the controllers. That is the reason why I provided the link of your motherboard since they have their RST in the download site of your motherboard. If you are hesitant, the best way is to contact the manufacturer of the board for further assistance. They should be able to guide you with the RST GUI since they know the BIOS settings and also with the update of the BIOS and drivers.

If you have questions, please let us know. Thank you.

Best regards,

Michael L.

Intel Customer Support Technician

Michael

I appreciate the reply.

However, I wonder if a misunderstanding has occurred.

Before I used Intel's update tool, I had an Intel branded GUI for RST (plus Optane), as shown on the screenshot in previous posts. Everything was fine except the driver was out of date and had a known vulnerability (17.7.0.1006 ).

The update tool has not removed the present version (or left remnants of it, as it is shown in the program listing on Win10, as shown in the screenshots I have supplied). In addition, the update removed the GUI.

The logical conclusion is that the Intel software update tool has not worked. I do not see that the motherboard firmware has anything to do with the problems caused by the Intel update tool.

It seems to me that Intel should have a process for undoing what the update tool has inflicted on my Win10 setup and to update the RST to a more robust (not vulnerable) version.

Do you have a diagnostic tool to determine what software version of RST divers I have presently on my machine or another RST update program that will properly uninstall v17.7.0.1006 and update it to a newer version, please?
