Hi,

CPU: 3770k

Chipset: Z77

Storage: 1 ssd + 2 samsung hd103sj Raid 0

OS: Win 10 CU (the latest version)

I have this shutdown bug with the latest Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers 14.8.14.1063: every time when i shutdown my computer the two hard disks in raid seem to wake up and spin up, then the pc completes the shutdown. In windows i have set the power option about the turn off hard disk timer to 0 (never turn off). I'm worried about this bug because i don't want to break the hard disks because of this spin up bug.

I read about this problem in another thread in this forum from 2013 ( ), but the problem still persist in 2017 latest drivers.

Also i had to disable the APM using the windows registry trick suggested in this forum because of another bug that makes the hard disks in raid 0 clicking sound: at least this is resolved.

Thanks for any useful help.

Bye

thank you for your help; in these days i've tried some settings from the power plan in windows, using a "turn off hard disks after XX minutes": sometimes if the disks in the raid 0 array are turned off by windows using the policy, the shutdown process is normal, without spinning up the disks. If i could make a bet i would say there's something conflicting between windows and the intel driver about the power plan.

thanks

here it is the system report from the Intel Rapid Storage application:

System Report

System Information

OS name: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro

OS version: 10.0.15063 9200

System name: ALESSIO-PC

System manufacturer: To Be Filled By O.E.M.

System model: To Be Filled By O.E.M.

Processor: GenuineIntel Intel64 Family 6 Model 58 Stepping 9 3,501 GHz

BIOS: American Megatrends Inc., P2.70

Intel® Rapid Storage Technology enterprise Information

Kit installed: 14.8.16.1063

User interface version: 14.8.16.1063

Language: Italian (Italy)

RAID option ROM version: 11.2.0.1527

Driver version: 14.8.16.1063

ISDI version: 14.8.16.1063

Storage System Information

RAID Configuration

Array Name: SATA_Array_0000

Size: 1.907.739 MB

Available space: 4 MB

Number of volumes: 1

Volume member: Volume0

Number of array disks: 2

Array disk: S246J1LZ321585

Array disk: S246J1LZ321581

Disk data cache: Enabled

Volume name: Volume0

Status: Normal

Type: RAID 0

Size: 1.907.734 MB

System volume: No

Data stripe size: 128 KB

Write-back cache: Off

Parity errors: 0

Blocks with media errors: 0

Physical sector size: 512 Bytes

Logical sector size: 512 Bytes

Hardware Information

Controller name: Intel Chipset SATA RAID Controller

Type: SATA

Mode: RAID

Number of SATA ports: 6

Number of volumes: 1

Volume: Volume0

Number of spares: 0

Number of available disks: 0

Rebuild on Hot Plug: Disabled

Manufacturer: 32902

Model number: 10274

Product revision: 4

Direct attached disk: S246J1LZ321585

Direct attached disk: S246J1LZ321581

Disk on Controller 0, Port 0

Status: Normal

Type: SATA disk

Location type: Internal

Usage: Array disk

Size: 932 GB

System disk: No

Disk data cache: Enabled

Command queuing: NCQ

Transfer rate: 3 Gb/s

Model: SAMSUNG HD103SJ

Serial number: S246J1LZ321585

SCSI device ID: 0

Firmware: 1AJ10001

Physical sector size: 512 Bytes

Logical sector size: 512 Bytes

Disk on Controller 0, Port 1

Status: Normal

Type: SATA disk

Location type: Internal

Usage: Array disk

Size: 932 GB

System disk: No

Disk data cache: Enabled

Command queuing: NCQ

Transfer rate: 3 Gb/s

Model: SAMSUNG HD103SJ

Serial number: S246J1LZ321581

SCSI device ID: 1

Firmware: 1AJ10001

Physical sector size: 512 Bytes

Logical sector size: 512 Bytes

What's was the previous Operating System installed?

3. Did you check with the board manufacturer?

1. if you checked the thread i linked, this issue is present since 2013 and with different Windows versions, from 8 to the latest 10.

I have the same problem since 2013 on the motherboard ASUS P8Z77-V LE PLUS, Windows 7/8/10. In RAID mode, when Windows shuts down, I hear the disk heads park and the spindle of all the drives stops, but for some reason it immediately starts spinning again and without spinning up to the operating speed, the PC turns off completely. I think it is bad for the health of hard drives. In AHCI mode, there is no such problem.

Did you find a solution to the problem?
