Upgraded RST, Disk caching disabled

I was thinking about trying Optane and so I started to take a look at my RST software. I noticed that there was an update from the version I was running 15.X, which I was running from the OEM software to 16.0.2 on Intel website. I downloaded the software from Intel and installed it. After install it told something along the lines that my driver 15.X was not compatible with drive acceleration. I figure I would just need to recreate the caching setup and deleted the cache. After I deleted it, was unable to find a way to accelerate my HDD. After some troubleshooting, I noticed that the BIOS firmware for RTS was also 15.X so I then upgraded my BIOS to the latest from ASUS (1606). At that point my BIOS RST was also running 16.0.2 however I was still unable to find accelerate my HDD in my list of options.

I have done a fair amount of install and uninstall so at this point my computer is the following configuration.

Downloaded latest RST from ASUS website

installed driver

Install software

I have attached a system report and SSU report to this.

I would like to know if you are trying to accelerate your HDD with Intel® Optane™ Memory or by using the Intel® Smart Response Technology?

At this time I would like to just get my SSD back working again. I am thinking about the newish M.2 64 soon.

I can see on your Intel® Rapid Storage Technology report that the SanDisk SDSSDA240G SSD is available. Please try to create a partition using Disk Management. Thank you for the suggestion however that did not seem to work for me. I have tried both that way and with no partition and a preallocated and that does not seem to make a difference. I have attached screenshots of what I see.

In order to accelerate an HDD with an SSD, the Intel® Smart Response Technology must be supported by the system. By checking the https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005501/boards-and-kits.html requirements of it, the chipset, socket, and OS of your system are not meeting those requirements. In addition, on the https://ark.intel.com/products/125903/Intel-Z370-Chipset specifications of the Z370 chipset, the Intel® Smart Response Technology is not supported, therefore, in order to accelerate your HDD, you should use Intel® Optane™.

That seems a bit odd as it was working before I updated my software and that in the link you provided me that Z370 supports Intel® Rapid Storage Technology which when I check out http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/architecture-and-technology/rapid-storage-technology.html http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/architecture-and-technology/rapid-storage-technology.html which includes Intel Smart Response Technology. I also noticed when I check out the spec sheet with ASUS for the motherboard it is listed as a feature. https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/PRIME-Z370-A/specifications/ PRIME Z370-A | Motherboards | ASUS USA

Are you sure this is not a feature of a somewhat high end Intel chip set?

Allow me to clarify that your motherboard and chipset support Intel® Rapid Storage Technology nonetheless, they do not support Intel® Smart Response Technology. This feature is the one which allows an SSD to accelerate an HDD.

As mentioned on the Intel® Smart Response https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005501/boards-and-kits.html requirements, your system does not meet the requirements to use this feature.
