Help Upgrading RST

I recently installed a 3TB storage drive in my Dell XPS8300 and it is not showing the full size. I understand I need to upgrade my RST, but I am not sure which is the right one. I am currently using 10.0.0.1046 and dell is listing that as the latest one. My motherboard lists DH67M01, TB0420 on it and my device manager has listings of Intel(R) 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset, Intel(R) H67 Express Chipset. Also I am running Windows 7 64-bit. Can you please advise me which RST is right for my system? Thanks.

It is important to say that our Intel® Rapid Storage Technology driver is generic software for your system and installing it you may lose special feature added on your computer by the Computer Manufacture.

My best recommendation is to contact Dell and get their software and instructions but as mentioned before, you can try with our driver.

I downloaded the SetupRST.exe file and ran it, but it came back with:

Failure

The setup program ended prematurely because of the following error: This platform is not supported.

So then I downloaded the 64-bit driver files and went to my device manager. From there I right clicked on Intel(R) Desktop/Workstation/Server Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller and went to properties then to the driver tab and tried to update manually with the files, but it came back with:

Windows has determined the software is up to date.

I am still stuck with this not working the only thing I can find is that perhaps the driver you recommended only works when the BIOS is set to raid instead of AHCI. Is that the problem here?

If that is the case is raid better than AHCI and should I switch it? Or do I need one of the drivers stating AHCI? If so which? I have found 2 and I don't know which is right.

The second one says it updates RAID and AHCI.

Well in fact Intel® Rapid Storage Technology can work when the chipset mode is set as RAID only.

Not sure I was clear before I have my system set to AHCI. Why are none of the drivers you recommend working?

Did you change the Chipset mode to RAID already? Make sure you save changes and exit. By doing this you should be able to install the driver.

If issue persists, the best step is to contact the Computer Manufacture to get their drivers.

Raid Chipset mode is necessary so you can create raids. If you are not going to use or create a raid then you can use either AHCI or RAID; this will depend on you.

The driver version Dell provides is the certified software that will work on your computer so I the best step is to get their special driver.

I don't want to create a raid. I just want to keep it running as it is, while adding my new 3TB storage drive. The driver Dell recommends for my system as I have told you is their version 10.0.0.1046. Which is the reason I can't use the full 3TB. Can you please advise me what driver I can successfully install and run my current AHCI configuration?

# 2 All Intel RST drivers from 13.x and above DO NOT support 6 Series Chipsets under AHCI.

As far as I see, if your "Intel(R) Desktop/Workstation/Server Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller" is using RST driver 10.0.0.1046, that corresponds to device ID: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C02&CC_0106

Using that information, I don't see why the bare driver will not install. All RST drivers from your current version to 12.9.0.1001 contain that device ID (PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C02&CC_0106) in the iaahci.inf/iaahcic.inf

Did you:

"Search automatically for updated driver software" when you tried to install the driver within Device Manger?

If you did, that option will not find a driver in some random folder on your PC.

You have to do one of these:

Browse my computer for driver software > Browse... > Choose your new RST driver folder

Browse my computer for driver software > Let me pick from... > Have Disk... > Browse... > Choose your new RST driver folder > iaahci.inf (iaahcic.inf if using a newer driver than 11.2.0.1006)

When adding a HDD to the system is not necessary to update or even have Intel® Rapid Storage Technology if there is no RAID setup on the system.

The capacity problem may be related to a Chipset designed set by the Computer Manufacture.

Try setting EUFI enabled on the BIOS as another troubleshooting step but if you still have problems my recommendation is to contact your Computer Manufacture for further configuration.
