I am interested in your M10JNP2SB motherboard as the motherboard is VMWare / ESXI 7.0 compatible. I want to use Intel RSTe (Intel ® VROC SATA). I saw the following video.

How to Configure Intel® Virtual RAID on CPU (Intel® VROC) SATA / Intel® Rapid Storage Technology enterprise (Intel® RSTe) Video

If I created one or two RAID volumes, will they show up under VMWare? Can I add the volumes under VMWare as data storage? Or do I need a hardware RAID controller for this?

Thank you for joining the community

Unfortunately VMware is not a supported OS for this board M10JNP2SB. https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000055761/server-products/server-boards.html

For this reason there are no available RAID drivers released by Intel

Besides that VMWare does not offer software RAID options. So the most probable is that the OS will see individual drives during installation.

Hello Jose,

Thank you for confirming that the board is VMware / ESXI compatible.

I understand VMWare does not support software RAID.

7 Compatible RAID controllers are listed in the configuration manual Rev. 1.8 September 2020.

Only one of them supports Raid 5. This is the Intel Raid Controller RS3DC080. The Intel Raid Controller costs € 500. Is there another cheaper Raid 5-compatible Raid controller for the mainboard?
