Hello,

I hope this is the right group to post this question. Apologies in advance, if not.

There are 4 solid-state drives in a RAID 5 configuration using VROC 8.0.0.4006 in a RHEL9 system. While the RAID was unmounted in a running Linux system the drives were removed and returned in the wrong order and then removed and returned to the right order. But the RAID was already damaged and could no longer be mounted. The node was rebooted and the BIOS entered to recreate the RAID.

Once in the BIOS under the "Advanced" tab there is a "Driver Health" entry. Selecting that gets:

Intel(R) VROC 8.0.0.4006 VMD Driver Failed

There was no need for the existing data on the RAID and it was deleted. An attempt was made to recreate the RAID. However, in the "Create RAID Volume" entry of the BIOS, the 4 solid-state drives are always disabled and cannot be selected for inclusion in the RAID. The drives were not bad prior to the reinsertion. Is there a way to reset the driver and recreate the RAID with these drives?

-John

I believe that you don't need to reset the driver; you need to reset the data stored on the drives. I believe that you can do this from BIOS Setup.

Hope this helps,

...S

Hi Johnt2024,

Thank you for reaching the Intel Community.

We appreciate you reaching out to us regarding the reported issue. Upon checking, kindly refer to the below user guide for Linux:

https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/memory-and-storage/linux-intel-vroc-userguide-333915.pdf

1. Clear RAID Metadata on the Drives

2. Reset Intel VROC Configuration

3. Verify Drive Health

4. Recreate the RAID Array in BIOS

Regards,

Fikri

Thank you both for the responses they were both helpful.

My solution was found within the BIOS. The exact steps I can't remember but it involved changing the raided drives to "unraided" one at a time. This made them available to be raided again and the raid was healthy again.

And that doc was new to me and looks like a great reference.

Thanks again!

-John
