S3420GPLC Problems

I have an Intel SC5650UP server chassis with a S3420GPLC mother board, I3 540 3.07GHz cpu, 6 x 2Gb Kingston ECC DIMMs, 2 x Seagate 500 GB and 2 Seagate 1 TB HDs.

I am busy setting up the server but have the following problems:

On power up, Amber error light starts to blink and all fans speed up to full speed.
In BIOS on 4 RAM slots are visible and only 8Gb of RAM detected.
When trying to install Server 2008 I get a STOP Error (Blue Screen) 0x00000124.

There are no add-on PCI cards installed.

Have tried C6 - disable in BIOS, Fans still run at max speed.

PLEASE HELP!

Item # 1 may be as simple as updating your FRUSDR so that it would provide the correct sensor data records for the fans that are installed on the system. The firmware updates can be found http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=19410&lang=eng here.

Item# 2, on the http://download.intel.com/support/motherboards/server/s3420gp/sb/s3420gp_tps_r2_3.pdf TPS, there is a good read on how to populate memory on the server board on section 3.2.4.1 (page 21) as well as requirements for memory use. Also, check if it against the tested list available http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/server/s3420gp/sb/CS-030738.htm here.

Item# 3, depending on how you configured your storage device, you may need to install http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Server+Products&ProductLine=Intel%c2%ae+Server+Boards&ProductProduct=Intel%c2%ae+Server+Board+S3420GP additional drivers.

Did you try updating the firmware as suggested earlier ? If yes, can you check the SEL for possible errors. Depending on what you want to use (& the OS you are running), you can try the http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18895&lang=eng Intel® System Information Retrieval Utility for Windows* or http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18078&lang=eng System Event Log Viewer for UEFI, Windows and Linux to generate the SEL.

I did do firmware update as per you original post.

On closer inspection I found that the hdd fan was plugged into fan 3 instead of fan 2, all problems now sorted, thanks for your help!
