I want to evaluate the product and provide feedback, but I really don't have enough free time to troubleshoot installation issues. I am using Visual Studio 2008 Professional on Windows 7 RC x64 if that is of any help.

Moreover, when the installation process fails like this, it is completely unacceptable to leave the system in half-installed state - at least it could perform a rollback to undo any changes made to the registry, filesystem and environment variables.

EDIT: Solved the problem.

TMP environment variable had an extra space (i.e. "C:TEMP " instead of "C:TEMP"). That caused the both the setup and the log file issue. It would be nice if in the future setup does not assume that the TMP path exists -- it should check if it is valid, and give an appropriate error message.

Finally, I had to perform uninstall twice to fully remove the product before I managed to reinstall it correctly. Weird.

Sorry if this isn't an appropriate place to ask this, but I couldn't find anything in the knowledge base, support FAQs, etc.

Having downloaded Parallel Studio (Evaluation), I attempted to install, and everything was fine until I recieved this message:

Microsoft Visual Studio* 2008 software is not installed on this system.
Installation will end because this product must integrate with Microsoft Visual Studio* software.

This surprised me, because it is, quite definately. Been using it for some time.
(I de-selected the Parallel Studio Install option to have integration with 2005 as well.)

However, upon further inspection, I have an option in my start menu, to start VS8 with Parallel Studio .. and it does start up.

So - are there likely to be any negative side effects from this installation error?
Any advice would be gratefully recieved.

Thanks,

Richard

Hi Igor,

Just a note: Intel Parallel Studio does not support Windows 7 (please, see the release notes document for supported OS list). It doesn't nesessaraly mean that it shouldn't work there, but we do not guarantee normal functioning with unsupported operational systems. Please, use supported OS for Parallel Studio evaluation.

I believe setup utility relies on TEMP environment variable, not existing absolute path. So, if the environment variable was broken, it could cause the problems.

TMP environment variable had an extra space (i.e. "C:TEMP " instead of "C:TEMP"). That caused the both the setup and the log file issue. It would be nice if in the future setup does not assume that the TMP path exists -- it should check if it is valid, and give an appropriate error message.

The "c:temp " issue is fixed in the Intel Parallel Studio SP1.

Thanks,
Jennifer
