How to speed up parallel port ?

In one application I am using an 800 MHz Pentium desktop computer under DOS. I use the printer port to interface to some custom hardware only i.e. no printer is connected.

I observed that the write operation to the port takes about 1 microsec i,e, 800 clock cycles. This seriously limits the performance of the system.

What controls the speed of the parallel port and how can it be speeded it up?.

Jim A: On start-up the delay of the parallel port is initiated so the speed is the same independently from the system clock speed. I am asking for the details of this initiation i.e. the software which determines the speed of the parrallel port.

Unfortunatelly the www.int????/desing site needs specific type number and

is not set up to answer general questions.

Perhaps you could help me by mailing to me the I/O map

used by PENTIUMs ?
