Well, turns out that it is still true of Windows 7 (x64) that first step in trouble shooting should be to reboot. It seems that I had another installation process that had failed silently and was blocking all others (logging in/out did not clear the install).
Rebooting "suspended" this failed install and allowed Amplifier to be uninstalled.

Thanks,

Edward

Hello-
As part of an evaluation I installed Parallel Amplifier and used it successfully. Several weeks later, after the evaluation license had expired, I went to demonstrate it to a coworker and most Amplifier actions would result in Visual Studio crashing. Attempting to uninstall Amplifier would fail as well. I obtained another evaluation license and downloaded update 3. Installing update 3 now fails when trying to remove update 2. However, the license file seems to have been applied and the currently installed update 2 no longer crashes (but still won't uninstall from Control Panel).

Here is the tail of the installation error log:

=== Verbose logging started: 6/9/2010 13:51:47 Build type: SHIP UNICODE 5.00.7600.00 Calling process: C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Intel\\Parallel Studio\\Amplifier\\setup\\Setup.exe ===

MSI (c) (6C:B0) [13:51:47:652]: Resetting cached policy values

MSI (c) (6C:B0) [13:51:47:652]: Machine policy value 'Debug' is 0

MSI (c) (6C:B0) [13:51:47:652]: ******* RunEngine:

     ******* Product: C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Intel\\Download\\Amplifier_update2_setup\\Installs\\Amplifier_update2_win.msi

     ******* Action:

     ******* CommandLine: **********

MSI (c) (6C:B0) [13:51:47:653]: Client-side and UI is none or basic: Running entire install on the server.

MSI (c) (6C:B0) [13:51:50:653]: Failed to grab execution mutex.
