Know this is the wrong forum, but there isn't a more appropriate one in the categories list of 1. Does anyone out there know of a reasonable COBOL compiler to aid in migrating from VAX/VMS to WIN32 (notably, NT or W2K)? Checked Compaq site, but compilers all are for Alpha NT.

Thanks for any suggestions you might have.

John

Compaq doesn't have COBOL compilers for Windows. Fujitsu offers a good one - I don't know what migration aids it has.

Steve

I don't know COBOL, but people I know who do speak highly of Micro Focus COBOL. It supposedly has a very high degree of compatibility.

http://www.microfocus.com/products

YMMV,
John

Oh, I forgot to mention that, on the other hand, Fujitsu offers COBOL for .NET. It may not be on your radar screen, but it's already a big part of mine - well, .NET anyway - not COBOL ;-).

-John

John and Steve

Thanks for the suggestions. We only need a minimal compiler for turning our VMS source into DLLs for linking with VB. Seems like the Fujitsu product is the most cost-effective one with that capability.

RM is too expensive for a one-shot conversion and has runtime license issues.

As I read their web site advisory, MicroFocus is withdrawing Visual Cobol from the US market, see:

http://www.microfocus.com/products/microfocus/advisory/vcob.asp

John
