well i was just wondering whether the next version of VTune will be compatible with fedora core3 or core4 and is there any date when it will be out. I guess core4 will be out on june 6th. I am not sure whether i should be updating my kernel as i need VTune. (btw i am using FC3 currently)

hi,
i am using callgrind profiler for my program as i am not able to use VTune on my fedora workstation. When i want to enter the cache size manually i am asked to enter three parameters L2 cache size (512KB), assoc?? and line size?? . I am not sure what the assoc and line size mean. Can anyone let me know what they exactly mean and their values on a P4 machine.

Btw i was wondering how i can find the size of L1 Cache size in linux. Even though i know it i just want to confirm it. But when i run /proc/cpuinfo it shows only the L2 cache size

thanks
anand

Greetings from Intel Software Network Support.

The callgrind pages on SourceForge*have a contact email link at the bottom; if our fellow developers are unable to help here, it might also be worth emailing the owner of the documentationto askwhat's required for assoc or line size.

For those following along, here's a link to more information about Red Hat* Fedora* Core 3 not being supported yet by the Intel VTune Performance Analyzer: http://softwareforums.intel.com/ids/board/message?board.id=14&message.id=931

Red Hat Fedora Core 1, however, is supported: http://intel.com/software/products/vtune/vlin/sysreq.htm

Regarding /proc/cpuinfo, we are looking into this for you.

Regards,

We posed this question to the Intel VTune Performance Analyzer support team, who responded:

As a general corporate policy, Intel Customer Support does not comment on unannounced Intel products, future technologies or technology trends. When new Intel technologies and products are released information will be available on our website at: http://www.intel.com/pressroom/index.htm

While this request isn't supported in the existing product, we have forwarded it to our product requirements team for consideration in the planning of future releases.

Regards,
