Hi Hubert,

Thank you for the information.

When moving from one VM to the other what I usually do is, I take a snapshot of the current hard disk and mount it to the new VM. This way I do not need to re-install all the required software packages from the scratch. But last time when I did this with an activated trial version of the Intel Parallel Studio I got an error saying no license file found or something. Then I had to re-install Intel Parallel Studio and re-activate a trial version. But not the other packages I had installed earlier.

So do you think I can use this snapshot strategy and use Intel Parallel Studio in different VMs if I have a proper license in the /opt/intel/licenses folder?

Please kindly let me know.

Thank you!

Regards,

Zank

Hi,

I want to activate my Intel Parallel Studio trial version with proper licensing. OS is CentOS 6.6. Please let me know how can I activate my trial version once I receive my license file.

Thank you!

Regards,

Hi Zank,

Do you mean how to convert your eval installation into a product installation with a permanent license? If this is your request, just copy the product license file into /opt/intel/licenses - if this dir doesn't exist yet, create it first.. That's all; no re-installation is required.

Regards, Hubert.

Hi Hubert,

Thank you ! Yes. That is one thing I wanted to know.

I need another small clarification. I am using VMs from Amazon Web Services (AWS) for my simulations. However due to some reasons I might have to change my VM time to time (Usually I move to a high performance VM only when my simulation load is high. Otherwise I use a normal VM for my simulations). Is there a way to reuse the same Intel Parallel Studio license when I switch to a new VM? Please kindly let me know.

Once this thing gets clarified I can purchase license for my trial version.

Thank you!

Regards,

Zank

Zank,

In such case it's the best to install Parallel Studio on a share and mount it to a VM as appropriate. You can copy the license file into one of the default license search paths:

$HOME/intel/licenes
/opt/intel/licenses
 or
<installdir>/<product>/licenses.

If 'licenses' doens't exist yet, you can create it.

The alternative options would be to modify the enviornment variable and point it to the location of the license file (export INTEL_LICENSE_FILE=<path_to/lic_file)

I hope this helps.

Regards, Hubert.

Yes, when moving

Yes, when moving installations to another VM you need to move the license file too or copy it over to one of the default license directories after move (e.g.$HOME/intel/licenes or /opt/intel/licenses or <installdir>/<product>/licenses.).
