Intel XDK Update won't Start

The Intel XDK program ran and installed an update this evening and ever since that I have yet to be able to open the program. Every time I attempt to start the program the error window appear with "The Intel XDK encountered a problem and must restart". I have restarted a few times and also tried to reinstall the program with the same result.

I pasted the error log below - any resolution to my issue would be appreciated.

Prior to starting the XDK, can you make sure you do not have any nw.exe processes running in TaskManager?

Take the following steps to completely uninstall the XDK from your system:
-- from the Windows Control Panel, remove the Intel XDK

then:
> cd %LocalAppData%\Intel\XDK
> del *.* /s/q

then:
> cd %LocalAppData%\XDK
> copy global-settings.xdk %UserProfile%
> del *.* /s/q
> copy %UserProfile%\global-settings.xdk .

then:
-- goto xdk.intel.com and select download link
-- download and install the new XDK

Prior version worked on Ubuntu Linux 12.04 and 14 (although there were various problems initially installing onto the kubuntu 14 system...).

Today I regret having run the update installer on Ubuntu 12.04. It showed that it successfully installed the update with no errors, however it will not run. I tried alternately installing using sudo, root, and then also for a single user in home directory -- all with the same result --> the application does not show at all - and no errors revealed at all. I've tried running from the application startup icon and from the command line.......
