Intel Parallel Studio XE Cluster Edition 2016 - setup crashes

I'm having difficulty getting setup.exe to run on Windows 2012 R2 for Intel Parallel Studio XE Cluster Edition 2016. The installer (setup.exe) closes after about 2 seconds. It doesn't even get far enough to create a log file that might help me discern what the issue is.

The same installer seems to work fine on my Windows 8.1 workstation, but dies on two different Windows 2012 R2 servers.

Please help.

If you have installed Intel®

If you have installed Intel® Parallel Studio XE 2016 Beta, please remove this before installing Intel® Parallel Studio XE 2016. Otherwise installation will not proceed correctly.

This is a fresh Windows install, and I've never installed the Beta version on either of the systems in question.
