Hi,

we are interested to buy this intel xeon phi:

http://ark.intel.com/it/products/75798/Intel-Xeon-Phi-Coprocessor-3120P-6GB-1_100-GHz-57-core

we would like install this device on a HP PROLINAT DL 585 G7 with 4 AMD OPTERON CPU

and linux centOS 5.5.

Anyone has information about the compatibility of the AMD processors with intel xeon phi 2130 and LINUX CentOS 5.5.

Hi Donato,

I can't speak to AMD compatibility. Hopefully, someone in the community will. There are some BIOS requirements you should check. Look at the readme files at https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/intel-manycore-platform-software-stack-mpss.

As to compatibility with CentOS 5.5, a number of the community have ported the stack to several operating systems and versions not directly supported by Intel, including CentOS "Not supported" only means that Intel does not validate against the OS and version. Getting the stack working on a non-validated OS requires recompiling at the very least. The above link also contains the location of the sources.

Centos 5.5 would be expected to show the same problems as red hat 5.5, which doesn't support Intel(r) Xepn Phi(tm). CentOS versions which correspond exactly to supported Red Hat versions would work with the MPSS for those versions, without rebuild, provided that the hardware platform is compatible.

HP ought to have information on compatibility of Intel(r) Xeon Phi(tm) with their platforms. When I was still working at Intel, Intel had some of the information from the OEMs, but it wasn't permitted to be discussed on this forum, in part because it wasn't necessarily reliable.

mpss for our kernel version ?

The minimum rhel requirement

The minimum rhel requirement for current mpss has been raised to 6.2. 5.x never was supported. If you use a version and kernel release which are supported on red hat, you shouldn't require recompilation for centos. Build instructions are easily found by web searches using site:software.intel.com but I don't expect to find anything for rhel or centos 5.x. Among the problems on the host side are lack of support for AVX prior to rhel 6.1; as far as I know supported host CPUs are all AVX (unlike my 2.5 year old MIC/WSM setup).

Hi I installed a new centOS 6.3 in our server

and i tried to install the mpss-3.4

when i try to type modprobe mic (chapter 2.2 point 4)

I get these errors

In my lspci i have this result

my mic.ko file is in the folder

but i think modprobe reads in the folder

When you ran micdebug.sh, it would have created a file micdebug_{date and time}.tgz in your current working directory. Could you send that? You might want to send it as part of a private message because it does have system identifiable information in it. Go to the message that Belinda posted, click on "Send Author a Message", write a short note and attach the tgz file using the Protected Attachment at the bottom of that page.

I have a couple questions of my own, though. The MPSS install should not have put a file called RCS in /etc/modprobe.d/. Do you use the RCS configuration management system on your machine? Is RCS a file or a directory? If it is a directory, what is in it?
