topic Device /dev/mei0 not showing in Intel® Software Guard Extensions (Intel® SGX)

The server I'm working with shows the module mei_me but I cannot load it. Additionally, the device /dev/mei0 is missing. What can I do about this?

Hardware: Xeon E3-1230 v5, Supermicro X11SSH-F

OS: Ubuntu 16.04

Note 1: I'm not sure it matters but the motherboard doesn't appear to support Intel AMT.
Note 2: I need that module and the respective device to be able to use Intel SGX PSW.

Hello,

Hello,

I believe your question would be best answered in the Software Guard Extensions forum. I believe it has been successfully moved there now.

FYI the Business Client forum is for questions on client systems on vPro technologies and does not cover servers.

Intel Xeon E3 processors as

Intel Xeon E3 processors as of today do not have an Intel Manageability

Engine. Therefore, the kernel will never be able to expose the device

/dev/mei0. What this means in terms of SGX is that Platform Service Enclave

functionality is not available on Xeon E3 (monotonic counters, trusted time).
