EMA - Move Endpoints between Endpoint Groups

We have some Endpoints that have been configured in Groups, and we would like to move these to a new Endpoint Group.

Is there an approved way to do this within EMA, or do we need to un-provision each of the Endpoints and re-provision into the correct Endpoint Group?

If we need to un-provision the Endpoints, is there an approved, easy way to do this (on ~50 Endpoints)?

On a secondary note, why are the Endpoints and Endpoint Groups always displayed in a random order? They're neither alphabetical, nor date of creation. Maybe I need to submit a feature request for this.

Moving Endpoints to a Different Endpoint Group

There is no need to un‑provision and re‑provision endpoints in order to move them between Endpoint Groups within the same EMA environment.

Endpoint Group membership is determined by the endpoint’s local EMA agent configuration file. To move an endpoint to a new group:

Obtain the emaagent.msh file associated with the target Endpoint Group.
On the endpoint, replace the existing file located at:
C:\Program Files\Intel\EMA Agent\
Restart the EMA Agent service.

Once the agent reconnects, the endpoint will automatically appear under the new Endpoint Group in the EMA console.

I can confirm that this has worked to move the devices into new groups, so thank you for that.

With regards removing EMA from an Endpoint, is there an approved process to do this?

With regard to removing EMA from an endpoint, yes, there is a process. As requested, please find below the recommended steps to unprovision (and if required, reprovision) an endpoint using Intel® Endpoint Management Assistant (EMA). Following this process ensures that all previous provisioning data is fully cleared and prevents any residual configuration issues.

Steps to Unprovision and Reprovision the Endpoint

1. Unprovision the Endpoint from the Intel® EMA Web Console

Log in to the Intel® EMA Server Web Console.
Navigate to the required endpoint.
Click Actions and select Provision AMT Devices.
Click Actions again and choose Stop Managing for the desired endpoint.

2. Uninstall the Intel® EMA Agent on the Endpoint

On the endpoint, ensure that any previously running Intel® EMA Agent profiles or related services are uninstalled.

3. Perform a Full Unprovision from MEBx (BIOS)

This step is critical to fully remove all existing AMT and EMA provisioning data:

Reboot the system and press Ctrl + P during startup to enter MEBx.
Navigate to Intel® AMT Configuration → Unprovision.
Select Full Unprovision and confirm.

Once these steps are completed, the endpoint will be fully unprovisioned and ready for clean reprovisioning if required.
