What is the bare minimum processor recommended for the home edition of Windows 7?

Hi Amossjr,

First of all, I must inform you that this community is solely dedicated to Intel vPro technology and your question here is typically intended for our Intel Processors community so in case you have any queries in future related to Processors, you might want to post them there in order to get a prompt response. Now reverting to your question, there is no hard and fast rule as to what CPUs would work with Windows 7 Home Ed cause in order to get a list, it will consume a few hours requiring a lot of work so I believe the best would be, if you provide us with a few options that you have at hand and we can recommend which CPU would work with Win7 keeping in mind your requirements and budget considerations.

FYI, all new 2010 Intel core vPro CPUs (i7/i5) work with Win7 and not only this, but other families of CPUs such as Intel Xeon, Pentium D, Core iX (includes i3/i5/i7/i9) are compatible with Win7 Home/Ent/Ult however in order to be sure, you still have to provide us the CPU Model and it's sSpec number which you can find using our Processor Finder Tool online (http://processorfinder.intel.com/ http://processorfinder.intel.com/). You should check with THOL (Tested Hardware and OS List) for each CPU online and look for compatible OS to ensure if that very CPU is going to support your edition of Windows 7. If the THOL states otherwise, we would never advise you to go for it since Intel or Microsoft in that case will not be held responsible and would not adhere to providing any support on an incompatible/non-tested OS.
