Intel Wireless-N 7260

My Lenovo IdeaPad U530 Touch is supposed to have Wireless-N 7260 wireless adapter. It is identified as such in Win8 Device Manager. However, the Intel Driver Update Utility indicates that I have a Wireless-AC 7260 wireless adapter. How can I determine which is correct?

Download http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/ Inssider and see if you can get a signal on 5 GHz band. If not, you have the Intel Wireless-N 7260.

I don't think my router supports 5GHz.

To see the complete details of the WiFi adapter, launch command prompt. Then copy and paste this text below:

netsh wlan show driver

You should see something like this below:

I have the same system as the OP running windows 8.1. The driver update utility thinks I have Intel dual band wireless AC 7260.

The computer does not see the 5gb channels from my router, just 2.4gb. Something is wrong with the driver update utility.

Windows tells you that you don't have 802.11a radio support. As such, you have the Intel Wireless-N 7260. Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 will have 802.11a and 802.11ac reported by Windows in addition to 802.11 b/g/n radios of Intel Wireless-N 7260. Try manually updating your Proset software and drivers using this link:https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=3622&DwnldID=23258&ProductFamily=Wireless+Networking&ProductLine=Wireless+Technologies&ProductProduct=Intel%c2%ae+PROSet/Wireless+Software&DownloadType=Software+Applications&lang=eng Download Center. If Windows detects it again as Intel Wireless-N 7260, you really have that WiFi adapter. The best way to make sure what WiFi adapter you really have is to open up your laptop and see the name of the WiFi adapter there.
