How can I change the advanced settings for the wireless adapter for many users?

The adapter in question is the Intel dual band wireless ac-8260. Does Intel support changing one or more of these advanced settings to deploy them on many machines?

As we understand, you want to know if is possible to modify the advanced Intel® Wireless Adapter driver settings and deploy these changes to multiple machines.

Please keep in mind that if the driver is already installed, the users can change the http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking/000005585.html Advanced Intel® Wireless Adapter Settings from Windows* Device Manager.

If you are an IT admin and need to use specific settings, you can use the Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software Administrator Tool to configure user settings and to create custom install packages to export to other systems. I was able to create a package and execute it. But there was one adapter setting that was missing - HT Mode. Do you know if this setting is available with the PROSet tool for IT admin?

Hello Piyush,

Remember that when you create a custom package, you can select the options that will be available for the user as well as the preset values, so this would be the first thing to check.

Also, some settings are not available depending on the model of the Wireless adapters; the "HT mode" option is not available for legacy adapters (older than the 7260/3160), the same way that "802.11n mode" is not seen with current series and specially for 802.11ac capable adapters.

The adapter in question is the latest dual band AC 8260. The HT mode is not available with the PROSet admin tool. Do you know of any workaround on how to add this setting into the package?

I have not tried adding the "802.11ac" Mode. I just do not want it to cause any other issues with the connection. The driver will be installed on Windows 7 Enterprise and the HT mode is missing. I will test with the 802.11ac Mode and let you know. It might take a bit longer - mostly next week t confirm the results. Thank you for your help.

Enabling "802.11ac" mode in the package did not help. HT mode still remains unchanged. The default value for this setting is VHT Mode. I'd like to change it to HT mode, using the package.

On one of the Windows websites I read "HT mode allows to High Throughput(802.11n)". So, I enabled 802.11n in the PROSet package. In the comments I see it allows High-throughput mode. I haven't tested it yet but, am I right in saying this is the HT mode?

Please try the 802.11n as you mentioned and let us know if it has an effect on the 8260 settings. The 802.11n mode (used with Legacy adapters) and HT mode (seen in current 802.11ac capable adapters) are different http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking/000005585.html Advanced Intel® Wireless Adapter Settings.

802.11n mode: Is used to add multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO). This setting allows you to enable or disable high throughput mode support (MIMO - 802.11n). The options available are:

- Enabled (Default)

- Disabled

HT Mode: Lets you select HT Mode (High Throughput mode), select VHT Mode (Very High Throughput Mode), or disable both modes. Possible options:

- Disabled

- HT mode (supports 802.11n compatibility)

- VHT mode (supports 802.11ac compatibility)

Please let us know if the change had the desired effect, if not, you will need to modify the registry in order to set HT mode on the systems using the Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260; we can provide the details about this if needed.

Hi Jonathan,

The 802.11n changes the HT mode and it works. The only other question I have is users have standard rights on a computer, will changing these settings also activate them? Because the "advanced properties can only be accessed with admin rights on a computer.

It is good to know you were able to configure the HT mode. To answer your question, if you use the Admin tools to create the package including the advanced settings, then the configuration will reflect on the client systems once you install it.

You can always test it to confirm before doing a major deployment.
