lucian: I have Windows 10. I have better performance on my windows 7 laptop. I believe some of this to be a Windows 10 issue possibly. What version of Windows do you have?

BrentS

I am having connectivity issues on TWO laptops (different brands HP and Lenovo) using the same adapter with Windows 10 Home 64 bit as the OS. I have a p50 laptop with Win7 that works FINE. The HP used to work well until a windows update seemingly caused issues. I can get a few really good speed tests at speedtest.net and then I'll either get a latency error or a very slow (0.84Mb/s) download speed. Most of my download speed on the test were between 24.0 and 29.0 Mb/s. I have tried many different things including updating wireless driver, rolling back the driver, etc. to no avail. Please advise. Just an FYI - the HP is a year old and the Lenovo is two weeks old. Thanks.

Hello BrentS,

Thanks for the files.

Your wireless connection rate is just 6 Mbps at full signal strength on the 5 GHz band, which is quite low. Most routers can transmit in two bands. Do you get similar results if you switch to the 2.4 GHz band?

We would like to approach the wireless adapter first. Please try a clean wireless driver installation using both he Intel generic driver and the driver provided by the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) for comparison.

Here you can find detailed instructions on how to perform a clean drivers installation and the links to download them:

- https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000022173/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking.html Clean Installation of Wireless Drivers

- https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005559/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking.html Latest Driver for Your Intel® Wireless Adapter

- https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/hn/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/300-series/320-17ikb/80xm/downloads Lenovo 80XM* Drivers

NOTE: Links to third party sites are being offered for your convenience and should not be viewed as an endorsement by Intel of the content, products, or services offered there.

Please let us know the results.

Best regards,

Eugenio F.

I am having the same intermittent download speeds. I would get a download rate of 25-26Mbps on speedtest.net. Then I will get one that is 4-5Mbps. Also, I had three laptop all exhibit the same characteristics. One of those laptops shows no issues on my work network. Not sure how or if I have tried to connect solely to the 2.4Ghz network. Please advise. Thanks.

Hello BrentS,

Most dual band routers allow you to configure two different SSID, one for 5GHz and another one for 2.4GHz. You might see two different networks coming from the same router.

As the issue seems limited to this network, you may try the following:

- Make sure your router firmware is up to date.

- Toggle off QoS (Quality of Service) rules on the router or reset it to factory settings (you'll have to set your network SSID again).

- Still on the router, test https://www.extremetech.com/computing/179344-how-to-boost-your-wifi-speed-by-choosing-the-right-channel switching channels. For 2.4GHz the recommended channels are 1,6 and 11 as they do not overlap with other channels. 5GHz channels are further apart than 2.4GHz and shouldn't interfere with each other, but you may switch it for testing.

NOTE: Links to third party sites are being offered for your convenience and should not be viewed as an endorsement by Intel of the content, products, or services offered there.

Best regards,

Eugenio F.

This is an ATT modem/router that has limited ability to change certain aspects of the network. I had ATT in over the weekend and they put in a different brand, but I still seem to be having bottlenecks or slow downs. There are many devices in my home that are wireless, but up until recently I've never had an issue. I have messed with QoS before, but that hasn't seemed to do much for me. Are there any settings on the adapter that may help keep a more constant speed? Thanks for your help.

Good day,

I have a Dell 5567 notebook, it has an Intel AC3165 Wi-Fi board. Internet download speed does not reach 4Mb. At home I have another old HP notebook, which I usually download at a speed of 25Mb. Obviously, the two connected through Wi-Fi.

I have tried everything to correct the problem without finding success. I have contacted Dell technical support, which gave me remote assistance, installed and uninstalled the drivers, without success of having found the solution. I have changed the configuration of the Wi-Fi board, having gone through all the possible configurations, and always obtaining the same results.

What version of Windows do you have? In my opinion the problem started after a Windows update.

Could someone solve it? In what way?

lucian: I have Windows 10. I have better performance on my windows 7 laptop. I believe some of this to be a Windows 10 issue possibly. What version of Windows do you have?

BrentS

BrentS

Thanks for your answer. I have Windows 10 Home. In my opinion, the problem started after a Windows 10 update.

What speed do you have with Windows 7?

Do you have Windows 7 on that same PC?

Have you managed to improve the speed in any way? I have tried for several days without success.

I have windows 7 pro on my work laptop and I see pretty normal speeds with U-verse internet. With my two win 10 laptops I get sporadic speed drops. One test will be 28M and the next will be 3-4M or less. Haven't had time to play lately but I tried messing with settings and just got another different router from att and it still has issues. I feel it started after some recent win 10 updates as one of those computers was fine until about 2-3 months ago. Not entirely sure tho!!!

Hello BrentS and lucianogaspari,

Have you tried installing the recently released https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005559/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking.html Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers version 20.30.1? This could help correct some issues on Windows 10*.

Best regards,

Eugenio F.

I just downloaded them and I will try to install the drivers tonight to see if it helps. I believe it to be a Win 10 issue only because I rarely have any issues streaming Netflix or Hulu on my network. Thanks.

Brent
