Slow speeds with Wireless-N 7260

Hello,

I am having very slow download speeds (6 Mbps) when I'm connected to the wireless router. When I'm connected directly to the modem, I get speeds around 65 Mbps. My wife's computer, however, gets speeds around 45 Mbps when it is connected to the internet. I've looked online for other help, but haven't been able to find anything. I have Windows 10 on a Dell Inspiron 7437. Thanks!

Based on the information that you provided to us, we noticed that the current version of drivers that are installed in your system are not the latest ones.

Please go ahead and perform an update using the latest drivers for your system found here:

Thanks for the suggestion. After I updated the drivers (at least I believe I updated everything correctly) I rebooted my computer and again ran a speed test. I'm still running considerably slower speeds than my wife's computer while connected to wifi (5 mbps and 26 mbps, respectively, at the last test). Any other thoughts?

In this case, to discard the drivers as the cause of the issue, please install the latest drivers for your machine (drivers from Dell*) since the generic drivers from Intel did not seem to have a positive impact on your system.

As well please follow these steps to gather more information from your network:

Right click on the wireless icon in the system tray (near to the time and date) and select "Open Network and Sharing Center".

Then, when it opens select "Change Adapter Settings" on the left side.

Right click on the wireless adapter you are using and select "Status"

Please provide us with a screenshot of the pop up window that the system will display.

Based on the model of the other machine, we noticed that your wife's laptop is running a card that is older than yours, and still gets a better connection.

We want to discard a firewall as the cause of the issue as your drivers are totally up to date.

Please go ahead and Start your PC in safe mode (with Networking) following these instructions and then monitor the results:

As well, please access your router and make sure that you do not have any QoS (quality of service) active on it.

Starting it in safe mode improved my speed a little (speed test showing 14.8 Mbps), but still nothing close to what my wife computer's speed was around the same time (45 Mbps). Our router has no QoS rules enabled.

Update: I discovered that there was still a program running even after I started up in safe mode called Malwarebytes. When I quit that program and ran the speed test again it was significantly improved (40.3 Mbps).

I restarted my computer back in normal mode and found that the low speeds returned, even after I disabled Malwarebytes. So I put it back in safe mode and have not even come close to the 40 Mbps speeds since then. I am getting around 25 Mbps in safe mode now, while me wife's computer is getting 60-70 Mbps.
