Hi there

When I go to download the latest driver for Windows XP, I can't get a driver-only file. I'm forced to download the Intel Proset software, which doesn't apply to our scenario. Is there any chance, dear Intel, that you'd release driver-only files?

Quick search of Intel driver download page found it ...

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=19533&lang=eng http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=19533&lang=eng

this has either whole pkg or just driver update

Sadly, the link you have provided, only links to an .EXE file which will install the driver, regardless if the driver suits the system or not.

A plain .INF file and the needed drivers will allow the end user to use device manager to search for the driver. And if it isn't needed (wrong driver), then Windows rightfully reports just that.

Also, if running an external OS (say, in a recovery and/or P2V enviroment...applications can't be installed). Having the extracted files from the .EXE would allow one to add them into a custom built ISO as well.

The driver is available in a zip file package under the Intel® PROSet/Wireless Basic Enterprise for IT Administrators: Windows XP 32-Bit*. The file you want is
ICS_Dx32.zip. Here's a http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Wireless+Networking&ProductLine=Intel%c2%ae+WiFi+Products&ProductProduct=Intel%c2%ae+PRO/Wireless+3945ABG+Network+Connection link.

Sadly, that file doesn't contain any .INF files - just an MSI (Microsoft installer) which does the exact same as the .EXE. So no use for the P2V / rescue enviroment / installing user...

Please make sure that you download the correct file - ICS_Dx32.zip.

The "D" signifies drivers and does include the .INF file.

Regards,

IleneK

Intel Customer Support
