AX200NGW not working on Ubuntu 20.10 (Kernel 5.08)

Hi, i'm trying to make work the module 'AX200NGW ' on Ubuntu.

Sometimes fail to load the driver others starts ok but stop working after a while and others freezees the sytem.

It seems to be related with drivers, so i've already tried:
- This version of Ubuntu tries to load 'iwlwifi-cc-a0-XX.ucode' where XX = 56 until XX = 39 from '/lib/firmware'.
Already tried with versions from 55 to 46 from 'https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/tree/'. None of them make a difference.

Attached there are several files:

- Generated file from the script 'Intel® System Support Utility (Intel® SSU) for Linux* operating system' . Also showed this on te console:

This product is not supported on this operating system.

The None missing package is recommended to retrieve ethtool details.

- A photo of the module

- Log from 'dmesg | grep iwlwifi' when the driver is loaded ok. First tries to load version 56, but as far as i saw there is no such version, so starts looking for version 55.

Here goes some other info:

Is this the original adapter that came pre-installed on your computer or did you change/install the adapter to this one?

I added the adapter (photho attached)

Is the Bluetooth working?
All the test have been done with bluetooh off just in case it could make any interference.

Is this a laptop or desktop computer?
Is an 'all in one'. The motherboard is :

Have you update your drivers and BIOS?

This commands have been tested when all is working. When it fails to load the driver the error is:

Microcode SW error detected

What is the model of the Router?

Is this a new computer?

When did you purchase it?

Was the Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX200 card working fine before with this same machine while using Ubuntu 20.10 (Kernel 5.08)?

When did the issue start?

Did you make any recent hardware/software changes?

Does the problem happen at home or in the work environment?

WiFi troubleshooting steps

Step 1: Check whether the kernel version customer uses supports this device:

The reference table of Wireless adapters and corresponding kernel versions is available by the link: https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/drivers/iwlwifi

The latest FWs are available by the following link: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/

If the kernel version corresponds to the Wireless adapter, proceed with step 2.

Step 2: Check whether the Wireless adapter is connected correctly:

Type the following command to the terminal: # lspci

Verify that the Intel network controller is identified, as on a picture below. If not, then the system doesn't identify the Intel network adapter and you will need to make sure it's properly integrated. You may need to request help from the system manufacturer. If the wireless adapter is properly identified - proceed with the step 3.

Step 3: Check whether this is an iwlwifi issue:

Type the following command to the terminal: # modinfo iwlwifi (example of the command output is on the picture below). If there is no output, then the module isn’t installed this is the distribution installation issue.

Please type: # lsmod | grep iwlwifi

If the result is empty, the driver hasn't been loaded. Most likely to be a distribution issue.

To verify, please type: # dmesg | grep iwlwifi

If the result is empty, the driver wasn’t initialized and this is a distribution issue. If the result is populated as on the above picture, proceeed with the step 4.

Step 4: Check whether the suitable firmware is installed:

Please type: # dmesg | grep “no suitable firmware found!”

If the result is not empty, it means you don't have a suitable FW (api mentioned in the dmesg).

Please visit here https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/drivers/iwlwifi for supported FW, or here https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/ for the latest versions.

If these steps didn't reveal the issue or didn't solve the problem, proceed with the Step 5:

Step 5: Collect the debug data:

Please type: # dmesg | grep ASSERT

If the output is empty, please follow this wiki: https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/drivers/iwlwifi/debugging to extract dmesg and trace-cmd.

If the output has value, please collect from the wiki FW dump too.

Not a specific one. I've already tried with several and always is having the same behaviour.

Is this a new computer?

No, it's a fresh install

In both.

There are firmware / kernel combos which don´t work.. Especially newer firmware with older kernels..

Try updating to a newer kernel or downgrade the firmware (linux-firmare package), the firmware is loaded by the driver from /lib/firmware

Pablo_, I just received an update on this matter.

In order to try to fix this problem, please test a newer wireless firmware version 64 by updating to the latest & stable kernel 5.14.

Just to let you know, your system is currently working with Intel® Bay Trail chips which were launched 8 years ago. So, this issue may be related to hardware incompatibility with the much newer wireless product Intel® AX200 card.

If the issue remains with the latest kernel, please generate all logs again and the full dmesg log using command: # dmesg > dmesg.log.

In that case, what we recommend is to get in contact directly with the board's manufacturer support department to confirm which Intel® wireless cards they have tested and validated as fully compatible with their board and BIOS and also to check if, in fact, it is possible to replace the wireless card since there are a lot of regulations that come into play in reference to a "Wireless Integration":

Not sure if make any sense to post the logs because the board's manufacturer department indicated that tested modules are:

Wireless-AC 7260, Wireless-N 7260, Wireless-AC 7265, Wireless-N 7265 and Wireless-AC 3160

As long as i can see, only the 7265 AC and N are on productive state. Could you confirm that? If so, i saw on AC-7265 datasheet that is compatible with WPA2 and 802.1x, that means that is compatible with WPA2 Enterprise or is something different?

You are correct, FW 63 'iwlwifi-cc-a0-63.ucode' listed in https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/tree/ is for AX200 product.

FW 64 files listed there are for other Intel® wireless products.

Please try updating the matching to kernel (e.g. 5.13 or 5.14+) for FW 63 and once you get the chance let us know the results.

Form Factor: M2 (Next Generation Form factor - NGFF)
Electrical interfaces: PCIe and USB2.0

On each description there isn't the same parameters ('AC 7265' doesn't have 'Conector interface' and 'AX200' doesn't have 'Form Factor' or 'Electrical interfaces'). Right now i've got an 'AX200' (picture attached on the first entry), do i need something esle in order to connect the 'AC 7265' ??
