Intel(R) Wi-Fi 6 AX201 160MHz PEAP certificate authentication failure under Windows 11

Hi,

This issue is strange. We received a new batch of Laptop and decided to provision using Windows 11. Those are Lenovo E15gen2, X13 and P17. All share the same Intel WiFi chipset and recent drivers. All failed to use the WiFi using computer certificates, using PSK WiFi is no issue. Note that we also have other laptops using the same provisioning template but with other Intel chipsets or Realtek one and the issue does not occur.

I decided to test multiple version of the drivers and all failed. Attached is the SSU using latest found.

22.0.1.5 17/1/2021

22.150

22.180

22.200.2.1 9/3/2023

So, I decided to move to Windows 10 and give it a try: the problem is not reproduced. Attached is the SSU using latest driver on the same hardware.

Failure of connecting is that a logi/password is requested when connecting to the WiFi. This means that the certificate was not found, not valid or not accepted. On the AP controler, no tries are received with a certificate. I can use MMC.EXE and computer certificate snap in to confirm the certificate is there and valid. Renewing it (by deletion or by requesting a new one) doesn't solve the issue.

I also attached the exported XML from netsh wlan. When I import it on the failing computer, the login/password is not requested, it is an immediate failure (can't connect you to the network). Nothing is logged in event viewer.

I could have logged an error to Microsoft support, but since different hardware and different software solve the issue, it is related to the driver for me. But I have no clue how to get a verbose log from it.

Hello Eldertoon, I just received an update on this matter.

While we are still working on this scenario, we just wanted to confirm if you have the option to test any of the systems on a different network? Once you get the chance, please let us know the results.

Regards,

Albert R.

Intel Customer Support Technician

Hi,

I confirm connecting to a standard WPA2/PSK network is not an issue. My issue is only with WPA2/computer certificate network.
