Ilenek,

The laptop is a Medion MD96350 and it came with the Wireless card preinstalled. It originally ran Vista but has been upgraded to Windows 7.

It seems that Launch Manager invokes a piece of software that powers on the radio on the wireless card. Under Windows 7 there is a beep when the wireless button is pressed but that's it. The drivers are loaded and device manager is happy with the wireless card.

If I look in Windows Mobility Centre the option to turn on the wireless is greyed out. I was wondering if there was any other software that may turn on the radio?

Mark

Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection

I have a laptop running Windows 7 with one of these network cards. Windows 7 detects it and happily installs the drivers. The problem I have is that I can't power it on! Is there a small piece of software out there that will do this?

The BIOS on the machine merely offers two options:- off and last state so I can't switch it on there. The "special" button on the laptop does not respond when pressed so I need a software switch.

TIA

Mark

Mark,

Can you answer a few questions?

What is the laptop manufacturer?

Did you install the wireless adapter or did it come with the system?

Is this a recent upgrade to Windows 7?

My suspicion is that you updated the OS since this adapter pre-dates Windows 7. Have you updated your laptop BIOS software? The switch is usually controlled by the BIOS. You should contact your laptop manufacturer or go to their http://support.intel.com/support/notebook/centrino/sb/CS-009881.htm website to download the software.

You might take a look at http://support.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-031167.htm http://support.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-031167.htm for additional information on this type of issue.

Regards,

Ilenek

Intel Customer Support

Mark,

Generally when we see a problem like this we recommend you download the laptop manufacturer's drivers and software. Some laptop manufacturers bundle software to control the wireless switch with the wireless drivers.

After you download the manufacturer's software, I recommend you uninstall the Intel drivers and software completely before installing their software. The following links should help you.

http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-025395.htm Uninstall Intel WiFi adapter driver

http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-030416.htm Uninstall Intel PROSet/Wireless Software

Regards,

IleneK

Intel Customer Support
