Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 3168 Latest Driver Install issue

I see that the latest driver for Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 3168 is Version: 23.40.0 (Intel's website).

I downloaded the driver on my Windows 10 PC, (ASRock motherboard on board AC 3168), and installed it. However, when I check the driver version in Device Manager for the Wi-Fi network adapter AC3168, it still shows an older version: 19.51.50.2.

I tried rebooting the system, uninstalling the device, rebooting again, and performing a clean update, but the driver version still reverts to 19.51.50.2.

Is there a specific trick or set of steps I am missing to successfully update to the latest 23.40.0 driver for the Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 3168?

You are confusing driver package version number with driver version number. You need to look at the release notes for a driver package in order to see the version numbers of the included drivers. Here's a snippet from the 23.40.0 release notes:

As you can see, the driver version number for your 3168 component is 19.51.50.2.

I thought the same thing, but as mentioned below, we have the current driver.

Here is the link, which states that the new driver 19.51.50.2 is in package 23.40.0.

If someone finds this message at a later time, note that Intel can sometime try to automatically find and install package 23.120.0, but Intel card 3168 is no longer supported. Read the paragraph after the table:
