New Wifi card installation issues

Hi all,

Apologies if something silly here, bit of a noob.

Wondering if someone can help me here. I was looking to upgrade my wifi card from Asus PCE-AC56 to Asus PCE-AX58BT to both get bluetooth and wifi 6. Turned it off, unplugged everything, directly replaced the wifi card (using a pci-e extender, this mini circuit board thing) as gfx card and first of all PC crashed on start up and went into auto repair. Then managed to boot. Wifi card appears initially then seems to go offline. I checked driver and says it's offline. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling driver. I've tried using a different version of the driver. Each time it tries to repair and fails, and in the logs I see the below error. No idea how to solve it.

---

Adding driver package: Netwtw06.INF

Driver package added successfully. (Already exists in the system)

Published Name: oem114.inf

Total driver packages: 1

Added driver packages: 1

29/03/2025 20:53:53 : [Debug] ExitCode = 0

29/03/2025 20:53:53 : [Standard] publishedName = oem114.inf

29/03/2025 20:53:53 : [Error] System.Xml.XmlException: Root element is missing.

at System.Xml.XmlTextReaderImpl.Throw(Exception e)

at System.Xml.XmlTextReaderImpl.ParseDocumentContent()

at System.Xml.XmlTextReaderImpl.Read()

at System.Xml.XmlLoader.Load(XmlDocument doc, XmlReader reader, Boolean preserveWhitespace)

at System.Xml.XmlDocument.Load(XmlReader reader)

at System.Xml.XmlDocument.Load(String filename)

at PnPInstaller.PnPInstaller.AddInfToInfCacheFile(String inf, String publishedName)

29/03/2025 20:53:53 : [Error] Failed to get add INF to INF cache file, error code: ERROR

29/03/2025 20:53:54 : [Standard] Finish

29/03/2025 20:53:54 : [Error] Failed to run PnPInstaller, error code: ERROR

29/03/2025 20:53:54 : [Error] Failed to run PnPInstaller

---

Have tried a lot of tips and things I've seen on YouTube, netsh resets and stuff. Also tried not using the pcie extender cable and plugging direct to USB on mobo. Nothing seems to work. Not sure if it's a compatibility issue or if there's some sort of conflict in software, but I figured going from one Asus to another more recent one wouldn't have that sort of issue. Maybe I'm wrong. Anyone have any ideas here?

PC -
Motherboard - MSI B450 PRO-VDH
Graphics - MSI Radeon RX 6750 XT
CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
Windows 11

Ran the userbenchmark as well if that helps at all https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/70034344

Hoping I'm just a noob missing something obvious. Appreciate any responses.

Hello surax,

Thank you for posting in Intel Communities.

No worries—upgrading components can sometimes be tricky, especially when dealing with compatibility issues. Here are a few steps and considerations that might help resolve the problem:

Compatibility Check: Ensure that your motherboard supports the new Wi-Fi card. The MSI B450 PRO-VDH should support PCIe devices, but double-check the specifications to confirm compatibility with the Asus PCE-AX58BT.

BIOS Update: Make sure your motherboard's BIOS is updated to the latest version. Sometimes, newer hardware requires the latest BIOS updates for proper functionality.

Driver Installation: When installing the new Wi-Fi card, ensure you have the correct drivers from the Asus website. Uninstall any previous Wi-Fi card drivers completely before installing the new ones.

Device Manager: Check the Device Manager for any error messages or warnings related to the Wi-Fi card. If the card is listed with an error, try updating the driver directly from Device Manager.

PCIe Slot: If possible, try using a different PCIe slot on your motherboard. Sometimes, certain slots can have issues or conflicts with other components.

Power Management Settings: Disable any power-saving features for the Wi-Fi card in Device Manager. This can sometimes cause the card to go offline unexpectedly.

Windows Updates: Ensure that your Windows 11 is fully updated. Sometimes, system updates can resolve hardware compatibility issues.

Conflict Check: Check for any software conflicts, especially if you have other network-related software installed. Temporarily disable or uninstall them to see if it resolves the issue.

Physical Connection: Ensure that the Wi-Fi card is securely connected to the PCIe slot and that any antennas are properly attached.

Support Forums: Consider checking Asus and MSI support forums for any known issues or solutions related to your specific hardware combination.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it might be worth contacting MSI support for further assistance, as they may have more specific insights into compatibility or configuration issues with their hardware.

I hope this helps.

Best regards,

JeanetteC.

Intel Customer Support Technician
