Thank you again for your continued support and suggestions regarding the persistent Wi-Fi performance issues I was facing with my Lenovo Legion 7.

I finally identified the root cause, and it turned out to be quite unexpected:

The issue was due to electromagnetic (rf) interference caused by an older monitor connected via a DVI-to-DVI cable, with a HDMI adapter plugged in to my laptop. This monitor was plugged in alongside a second monitor using a DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable, with a USB-c adaptor. The way the two adapters were seated next to each other resulted in a very slight angular pressure on the setup, and when the older monitor was connected, my network performance dropped from ~500 Mbps to around ~70 Mbps upload & download. Disconnecting that monitor and waiting for a second or so immediately restored full performance.

I was able to confirm this as the root cause by using an alternate cable setup, which provided me with my full internet speeds. I would have never expected for this to be the issue.

Considering this issue has plagued me for a year now, and the ridiculous amount of time I've spent looking for solutions, the only emotion I feel right now is an intense sense of exasperation at this absurd situation.

I wanted to share this outcome not only to thank you for your assistance, but also in case this may help inform future cases or others experiencing similar unexplained slowdowns.

Apologies for the time spent on this issue and for any confusion caused — I truly appreciate your efforts in helping me troubleshoot it.

Lenovo Legion 7i (2022) Wi-Fi Issues - Killer AX1675i

For the longest time now, the Wi-Fi on my Lenovo Legion 7i (2022) has been significantly underperforming. I’m not particularly close to the router, but my iPhone consistently gets around 300 Mbps download / 300 Mbps upload, while my laptop gets only ~70 down / 70 up in the same spot. This issue has persisted for about a year now.

According to Device Manager, my laptop has the "Killer (R) Wi-Fi 6E AX1675i 160MHz Wireless Network Adapter (211NGW)" installed.

Here’s a non-exhaustive list of the things I’ve already tried:

- Disabling advanced Killer features (like Auto Bandwidth)
- Uninstalling all Killer software
- Disabling Lenovo Vantage Wi-Fi control features
- Completely removing Lenovo Vantage and related services
- Resetting the network stack (netsh etc.)
- Reinstalling Wi-Fi drivers (multiple versions, both Killer and Intel)
- Resetting all Wi-Fi and network settings via Windows
- Testing on multiple Wi-Fi networks
- Toggling advanced adapter properties (band preference, roaming aggressiveness, etc.)
- Adjusting power/sleep/adapter energy-saving settings

Having attempted all solutions I could think of and find online, I have concluded that the only thing that could help would be to replace the Killer driver with the Intel AX211 driver, since the hardware is supposedly to be identical (as mentioned on another forum).

No matter what or however many times I try, the device always reinstalls as a Killer-branded adapter, even after removing the driver and disconnecting from the internet during the process. I have also tried many other things when attempting to install alternate drivers. The installer just ends up giving a "Repair" option and reverts to the Killer version.

This makes me think that I will have to replace the wifi card if I want to use the AX211 drivers. Will successfully replacing the Killer AX1675i with a standard Intel AX211 in the Legion 7i (2022) improve performance? Or perhaps I should be trying something else?

Any and all help is appreciated.

Hello Elorion,

Thank you for posting in Intel Communities.

I understand you've already attempted numerous troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue. I want to clarify that, Intel is a supplier of laptop components and does not manufacture or sell complete laptop systems. Your system manufacturer may have altered the features, incorporated customizations, or made other changes to the software or hardware packaging they provide.

Installation or use of Intel® Wireless Adapters is subject to country-specific legal regulations. Some countries require the Intel® Wireless Adapters to be certified with the antenna that is intended to be used together in the system, while some countries require the Intel® Wireless Adapter to be certified at the full system level.

An Intel® Wireless Adapter installed in a system that is being sold on the market doesn't necessarily mean that same wireless adapter can be used or installed in any other systems for the above mentioned reason.

As each country may have different regulatory requirements, before you install/change the Intel® Wireless Adapter in a system, you must contact the system manufacturer to determine if the Intel® Wireless Adapters you plan to install is approved for use in your system and country. You are required to follow the manufacturer's post-approval requirements.

If the manufacturer doesn't have the necessary approvals, the party installing the device is responsible for approvals. Installing adapters in an unauthorized system may be illegal. The end user is not authorized to install the Intel® Wireless Adapters (except the retail products below). Only the manufacturer or its authorized representative can install the adapters.

Since you have not performed any integration or components upgrade yet, it is important to understand that it may not work due to hardware or software compatibility issues or dependencies.

It is still best to contact your system manufacturer support team to get help with installing the the OEM's latest Killer Wireless AX1675i drivers and proceed with a clean installation.

If the issue persists, please share your system configuration so I we can fully check and provide you with an accurate fix. This could be possible by downloading the Intel® System Support Utility for Windows* software. When the download is complete, launch SSU.exe.

Scan: Check the box Everything.

Click Scan.

Review: When finished scanning, click Next.

Click Save. * Attach the SSU log file as you reply.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best regards,

JeanetteC.

Intel Customer Support Technician

Thank you for your detailed response and for clarifying the regulatory and compatibility considerations around wireless adapter installation. I want to reassure you that I have no intention of installing or modifying any wireless adapter in a way that violates system manufacturer guidelines or country-specific regulations. I fully understand and respect Intel’s and other relavent policies and I will only proceed with updates or changes officially supported by Lenovo, the OEM of my system. I will also ensure that, given the scenario that I do proceed with component's replacement, it will function correctly and as required.

In terms of progress on the issue:

I’ve ensured all drivers and BIOS firmware are fully up to date using the official Lenovo Support site and System Update tool. After updating the BIOS (now at version K1CN48WW) I saw a noticeable improvement in network performance:

Download speeds increased from around 70 Mbps to approximately 150 Mbps.

Upload speeds improved from ~70 Mbps to around 500 Mbps.

My phone still gets about 300 Mbps download in the same location, so there is still a performance gap.

As per your recommendation to perform a clean installation of the OEM’s latest Killer drivers, here is what I’ve done:

Disconected from the internet before uninstalling to prevent automatic reinstallation.

Removed the existing 'Killer (R) Wi-Fi 6E AX1675i 160MHz Wireless Network Adapter (211NGW)' from Device Manager with the option to delete drivers checked.

Used 'Driver Store Explorer' to completely remove residual Killer and Intel Wi-Fi driver packages (including netwtw6e.inf and other related .inf files).

Restarted the PC, and reinstalled the latest Killer drivers from Lenovo’s official website.

This process successfully reinstalled the Killer driver, but did not result in further performance improvements beyond what the BIOS update already addressed.

Regarding the Intel System Support Utility (SSU), unfortunately, the program crashes immediately after pressing "Scan", even after attempting to run it:

In Windows 8 compatibility mode

With antivirus software disabled

As SSU did not function, I am attaching the manually saved Event Viewer logs and system information instead.

I greatly appreciate your continued support in helping me improve the wireless performance of my system - please let me know if there is a different utility or further manual info I can provide, alongside any next steps.
