My ASUS TUF 17 laptop has been upgraded with Intel WiFi7 BE200 320Mhz network card. I have download and installed the latest driver (Windows® 10 and Windows 11* Wi-Fi package drivers 23.80.1 for the Intel® Wi-Fi 7/Wi-Fi 6E/Wi-Fi 6) from from https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/230078/intel-wifi-7-be200/downloads.html

Upon startup of the laptop, network adapter does not function. In event viewer, Windows System log, there is an Event ID Error 5002 - 0000280001000000000000008A1300C0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000940000000600000004000000F2560100000000040F27000F16502A0016502A000000000042462C00 : Has determined that the network adapter is not functioning properly. Restarting the laptop does not help resolve the problem.

The network card is detected as seen below. More info on laptop spec below. The network card works fine on Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS. Hope you can help advise.

Did you remember to completely uninstall the driver packages (Wireless and Bluetooth both) before upgrading the hardware? If not, you need to do a clean installation of the drivers. Here is my process for doing so:

If you haven't already, download - but do not install just yet - the latest Bluetooth and Wireless driver packages for your adapter. Here are the current links for downloading these drivers: Wireless: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/19351 and Bluetooth: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/18649.

Most important! Disable Internet access. Unplug Ethernet cable and/or disable wireless. Keep disabled until told to re-enable. Note: This Wireless disable *must* be of type that will persist (i.e. stay disabled) across reboots.

From the Apps & Features applet, check for instances of Intel PROSet/Wireless Software and Intel Wireless Bluetooth. If none, skip forward to Step 6.

Uninstall each instance of Intel PROSet/Wireless Software and/or Intel Wireless Bluetooth that is present. When prompted, choose to "Discard Settings".

Manually reboot your computer, keeping Internet access disabled throughout.

From the Device Manager applet, check the Network Adapters section for an entry for Intel WiFi 7 BE200 and check the Bluetooth section for an entry for Intel Wireless Bluetooth that has an Intel driver associated with it. If neither is the case, skip forward to Step 12.

Right click on the entry for Intel WiFi 7 BE200 and select Uninstall Device. In the dialog that is then presented, choose to (checkmark) Delete the driver software for this device.

Repeat step 7 until the option to Delete the driver software for this device is not offered (i.e., is greyed out).

Right click on the entry for Intel Wireless Bluetooth and open its properties. If it has an Intel driver associated with it, then uninstall it, choosing to (checkmark) Delete the driver software for this device.

Repeat step 9 until the option to Delete the driver software for this device is not offered (i.e., is greyed out).

Go back to Step 5.

Install the downloaded Bluetooth driver package you downloaded earlier (my rule: always install Bluetooth first).

Install the downloaded Wireless driver package you downloaded earlier.

Manually shutdown and reboot your computer.

Reenable Internet access. Restore Ethernet cable and/or reenable wireless.

Test.

Note that it sometimes takes multiple uninstall (and reboot) cycles to clean out the old installations, so don't give up on the process. If you get to, say, 10 cycles, stop there and attempt the installation of the latest drivers.

Hope this helps,

...S

Ok, the alternative possibilities are:

The adapter is a dud and needs to be replaced.

The laptop is preventing the use of the adapter (via, for example, inclusion/exclusion lists in BIOS).

The laptop is configured for CNVi card usage and cannot tolerate non-CNVi cards (this is a stretch; I mention it because of issues in previous generations).

There is something else wrong with the laptop.

The obvious next-step is to replace the card and see if this alleviates the issues.

If it doesn't, you've never mentioned what the adapter was that you removed. Was it an Intel CNVi-based card (AC9560, AX201, AX203 or AX211)?

...S

Thanks for suggestions. The puzzling thing is the card has totally no issue on Ubuntu as my laptop is on dual boot. Think the card is ok. The card replaced was AX201

Seriously think is some bug on the driver. Not sure if there are any driver developers here who can check out the issue. Can provide any log files if needed.

Interesting. I have a very recent Dell XPS 9640, also having the identical Wifi adapter. I searched for Netwaw16 and found this thread to match exactly what I am experiencing.

Problem happens typically after waking up, but more recently also when booting up the computer. I noticed it happening occasionally in the first few months after purchasing the computer and didn't pay much notice. but now the problem has escalated and happens at least once a day. The computer freezes and the eventlog shows warnings and errors stating like above.

I run the latest update from Microsoft on Windows 11, v. 10.0.26100 and keep my drivers updated using Dell SupportAssist.

Similar issue
What’s with not having human readable event logs, Intel?
Giving us event IDs and then not telling us what they mean is borderline useless
My event logs too, have the same things all over them

if you want my two cents, I also believe this to be a driver bug

I was able to temporarily fix my issue by forcing the adapter in Wi-Fi 6 (AX) mode, using the device manager properties for the adapter

i am using it with a Ubiquiti WiFi 7 access point, so obviously this is not ideal…but at least it works

ALSO, this problem only occurs on Windows 11 and ONLY with the *latest* drivers from Intel

Linux works fine (also using Ubuntu)

Grab the latest Win 11 driver from Intel. It fixed it for me. I think it came out two weeks ago.
