AX Wi-Fi Adapters Not Getting IPv6 Addresses

I am experiencing an issue that seems to be related to AX wi-fi adapters. I have experienced this issue on AX201 and AX211 adapters.

When joining a network the computer will get an IPv4 address but not an IPv6 address until I run the command ipconfig /renew6. The user who reported the issue said that they used to get an IPv6 address on their Dell Latitude 5420 but at some point recently that stopped.

I have tested the following devices:

Dell Latitude E5450 with Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265
Lenovo Thinkpad T480S with Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265. Device gets IPv6
Dell Pro14 with Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX211. Device does not get IPv6
Dell Latitude 5420 with Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201. Device does not get IPv6

Troubleshooting so far includes:

Ensured IPv6 is enabled on the adapter
Ensured DHCPv6 client is enabled on the adapter
Observed that adapter successfully generated link-local IPv6 addresses
Observed routing table contains only:
- Loopback (::1/128)
- Link-local (fe80::/64)
- Multicast (ff00::/8)
Installed Windows 11 26200.8457 (latest version) on a Dell Pro14
Updated wifi driver from Intel 23.160.0.4 2025-07-21 to Intel 24.40.0.4 2026-04-13 (latest version)
Disabled wireless adapter power-saving features
- Set MIMO Power Save Mode to No SMPS
Disabled U-APSD - disabled by default
Temporarily disabled 802.11ax/Wi-Fi 6 mode
Captured ICMPv6 Router Advertisements using Wireshark
- I'm seeing router solicitations but no router advertisements until i run ipconfig /renew6

Hello BlaineKehl,

I understand that your devices are successfully obtaining IPv4 addresses but require manual intervention (ipconfig /renew6) to receive IPv6 addresses, and this functionality previously worked automatically on your Dell Latitude 5420. Your thorough troubleshooting efforts is really appreciated.

1. Perform a clean installation of OEM driver 24.20.0.4, A72 for Dell Latitude 5420.

2. Perform a clean installation of OEM driver 24.20.0.4, A72 for Dell Pro 14.

3. If the issue persists with both drivers above, please try temporarily rolling back to Intel driver version 23.160.0.4 to determine if this represents a driver regression.

4. Ensure there are no pending updates.

5. Update the BIOS to latest version 1.53.2, 1.53.2 and 1.14.1, 1.14.1.

If the issue persists, please share the additional information below for further investigation.

1. Is the adapter currently installed the original one that came with the system, or was it recently replaced or upgraded?

2. Have there been any recent changes made to the system?

3. Are you seeing any error messages? If so, please a screenshot.

I have performed the additional troubleshooting steps as requested and the issue persists on the 5420 and Pro 14.

1. Is the adapter currently installed the original one that came with the system, or was it recently replaced or upgraded?

I am using the original adapters on all devices.

2. Have there been any recent changes made to the system?

By system do you mean the devices or the network?

3. Are you seeing any error messages? If so, please a screenshot.

There are no error messages

May I ask which access point you are currently using? Also, have you had a chance to test the issue with a different access point to help isolate the problem?

Additionally, since this involves laptops, could you please confirm if you have already contacted DELL support regarding this matter?

We experience this issue with Cisco 9120 and 916x.

I have not contacted Dell yet. It seems like it would be related to the Intel cards doesn't it?
