Intel VTune Performance Analyzer 9.1 Build:385 (evaluation version)
Intel Thread Profiler 3.1 Build:0.27583
Dell Studio XPS 1647 (Intel Core i5) M 430 @ 2.27 Ghz
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
When creating a new project and running the activity on an executable built with Visual C++ 2008 Express, I get:
SERA_Set_Platform_environment() Failed
I glanced at the release notes and didn't see anything that seemed to preclude this working on my setup.
Also, the support forum does not work with Chrome 4.0.249.89 (38071) - no error messages, just reloads the page continuously...
and finally, one of the PDF has a link to the product support site that gives a page not found:

1) your link for some reason had an extra space - I had to copy it and fix it in the browser bar
2) so basically... Windows 7 is not supported. I don't believe I had seen any indication of this on the download page...
3) that reply you referenced is also wrong, as the Sampling Wizard's projects also give me the same error. The only thing that works are projects created with the Counter MonitorWizard... And by work I mean it launches the executable, does a few operationa and crashes the app under testsoon after (same .exe works under VC++ and command-line).

[probably going to get censored, but heck this is really helpful information that I wish I would have found after two days looking]
For those like me having the same problemswhoare still looking for a free profiler that works and can't wait for Intel to fix VTune, check out CodeAnalyst:
http://developer.amd.com/cpu/CodeAnalyst/codeanalystwindows/Pages/default.aspx
Yes, the time-based profiling works for Intel CPU on Windows 7 64-bitas I've just confirmed... and the download sizeis a fraction of VTune.

Don't know why there was an extra space in URL. Thank you to correct this.
Intel Core i7 processor is supported processor,but Intel Core i5 processor is NOTclaimed in release notes of v9.1 Update 7. See http://software.intel.com/sites/products/documentation/hpc/vtune/windows/release_notes.htm
