
April 22, 2009 was a great day for education in New York as Intel Corporation honored the New York winners and finalists participating in Intel sponsored education competitions. The competitions highlighted included the Intel Science Talent Search (STS), the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), and the Intel Schools of Distinction Award (SODA). ISEF and STS are both programs of Society for Science and the Public. Two hundred guests recognized the fifty STS and ISEF honorees who were present along with representatives from three SODA schools.
This year New York produced 114 out of 300 national semifinalists for Intel’s Science Talent Search. From the 114 semifinalists, 9 were among the 40 finalists that were honored in DC on March 10 were also from NY. Three New York schools came out on top for Intel’s Schools of Distinction Award, including Farnsworth Middle School in Guilderland, who had the finalist for Science Excellence.
The guests heard from Intel’s Vice President of Corporate Affairs, Shelly Esque, as well as Richard Mills, the New York Commissioner of Education and special guest, Governor Paterson. The event, held at the State Room in Albany, was a festive venue where Intel had the opportunity to personally to congratulate the winners and finalists. Governor Paterson captured the atmosphere when he said, “So all of you who’ve performed so admirably at such a young age, all of you students and the teachers and parents who help them, I wanted to congratulate you for your tremendous service”.
Over the past years, NY has produced many winners and finalists for the world's most prestigious academic honors. Rock on New York!!
