Yesterday, Intel’s global privacy officer, David Hoffman, testified before the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on H.R. 5777, the BEST PRACTICES Act of 2010, introduced by Rep. Bobby Rush, and a discussion draft, released by Reps. Boucher and Stearns, to require notice to and consent of an individual prior to the collection and disclosure of certain personal information relating to that individual.

As Hoffman mentioned in his testimony, Intel believes that innovation requires a policy environment in which individuals feel confident that their privacy interests are protected.

Intel’s mission is to develop technologies that solve important social problems. Consumer privacy is a priority to help achieve this mission. Hoffman was asked if Intel supports U.S. privacy legislation and why:

Last week, David Hoffman and John Miller released their vision paper on Global Digital Infrastructure, which includes security and privacy policy recommendations.

We welcome your comments and hope to encourage a dialogue on consumer privacy solutions.
