Based in Arizona, he is responsible for operations at four Arizona fabrication facilities that currently produce a wide range of Intel products.
In 1994, twenty-five years ago, Intel broke ground on the Ocotillo campus – and what a year. That’s how Andy Grove, Gordon Moore, and Craig Barrett described the year in a letter to investors. It was a year of record revenue, and in addition to beginning construction in Ocotillo, in the same year, Intel opened a new plant in Leixlip, Ireland and expanded capacity in Oregon, New Mexico, and Penang, Malaysia. It was also the year of the Pentium floating-point issue, which impacted our brand, relationships with customers, and our bottom line.
With the record demand and expansion that year for Intel, I imagine the challenge that people felt, similar to what many of us have been feeling this year. We own the Fabs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and during times like these, more than ever, it’s important for us to applaud our wins and appreciate each other.
This year has been an outstanding year for Intel’s Ocotillo campus here in Arizona. We’ve experienced unprecedented demand, and our team has delivered record-breaking output, all while ramping a new factory during our site’s 25th anniversary. Once Fab 42 ramps, Ocotillo will be Intel’s largest manufacturing site in the world. Our customers are asking us for even more, but this is worth celebrating.
To applaud Ocotillo’s 25th anniversary, we welcomed all employees to celebration parties; brought 500 Intel Shooting Star™ Drones to perform over the site, and just yesterday, hosted an open forum for Arizona employees with Bob Swan.
We’re not just celebrating the big wins; we’re celebrating small ones too. From recognizing employees focused on safety, quality, and those who reduce our environmental impact, to just saying thank you – there are so many ways that we can all show each other gratitude, recognition, and appreciation during this time. Not just for what we do here at work, but for who we are. We have a huge opportunity in front of us, and together we are stronger.
I challenge you to think about what you can do in your life and in your work to recognize and appreciate those around you – especially during exciting times like these.
