Inside of Intel we have been sharing countless stories of our colleagues making a difference during the coronavirus pandemic. Here is another collection of Intel Heros, a series dedicated to sharing some of the remarkable ways employees, our Intel heroes, are helping.

Intel Oregon

Mike Espig was volunteering with the Washington County Crisis Center when he was asked to quickly open a COVID recovery shelter because hospitals had nowhere to send homeless people who tested positive for COVID-19. He jumped into action with the help of Washington County officials to turn a closed-down hotel property into a shelter for homeless and at-risk individuals.  Mike led staffing and logistics for the shelter until getting a day-to-day operations manager in place, all while still managing his work at Intel in the early morning and late evening. Now his focus is on getting as many of the guests into permanent housing as possible.

Intel Israel

Intel volunteers lost no time in responding to an urgent request of the Jerusalem Municipality, manufacturing 700 clear face shields for the medical teams working in East Jerusalem. The quick response was made possible thanks to a creative idea of an Intel employee, who collected hundreds of sponges from Intel labs to create the shields with other employees and their families. Their efforts were warmly applauded by the Red Crescent, Augusta Victoria, St. Joseph, and Al Makassed hospitals, which received the shields. Similar initiatives of producing and delivery of protective items are currently underway in all of Intel Israel's campuses.

Intel Folsom

Ace Stryker and his wife wrote and illustrated a free, downloadable children's book called “Has Anyone Seen Normal?” which is a story about a young girl struggling to navigate the uncertainty in her life caused by COVID-19. It is a story more generally about choosing joy amid chaos. Hear more from Ace and his wife.

AHMAD FAIZUL

Intel Malaysia

Ahmad Faizul and team made 500 3D printed face shields for medical staff at COVID-19 hospitals. They have slowly down making the shield now that their state has become a “green” zone, indicating zero active cases.

Thank you to Mike, Intel Israel team, Ace, and Ahmad for stepping up in your local community. Stay tuned for more stories of Intel employees serving their communities. We are all in this together.
