Thinking Beyond 2030: How This Operations Manager is Turning His Dream of Health, Safety, and Digital Readiness for All into a Reality

As a business operations manager, Samuel Dorairaj drives site-wide operations projects for Intel India as well as supporting the site’s sustainability taskforce and cross business unit events. He recently put his project management skills to use spearheading Intel India’s vaccination program and the COVID-19 Care Center. We spoke with Samuel about this huge responsibility, how it connects to the company’s overall RISE strategy, and the world he envisions for 2030 and beyond. Read below to see how he’s working to create a safer, healthier world now­­—and for future generations.


Q: What do you do at Intel and what do you like about your job?
A: I’ve been at Intel since 2004 and I'm an operations manager. As part of my current job, get to work with people across several business groups. Each of them brings diverse and enriching perspectives that collectively add immense value to our projects and programs.  That is what I really enjoy—meeting and working with different people.

Recently, I also got an opportunity to lead a program as part of our Pandemic Response Team establishing Intel India’s vaccination program for employees and their dependents and the COVID-19 Care Center. That has been a fulfilling experience too.

Q: What are your thoughts about Intel’s RISE strategy?
A: Intel's RISE strategy aims at advancing Intel's leadership in corporate responsibility by taking on bold goals to make the world a much better place. But really to me, RISE 2030 is all about spotting challenges and solving them. I'm passionate about doing this in health, education, digital readiness, and sustainability. In this regard, I believe the power of technology and passion of employees play a vital role. I am extremely inspired by Intel’s RISE 2030 goals and each one of us, individually and collectively, have an opportunity to contribute towards accomplishing these goals.

Q: How does your work connect to Intel’s RISE strategy?
A: My work connects with Intel’s RISE strategy and the responsibility pillar across two key programs—the vaccination drive and the COVID-19 Care Center. Both are close to my heart. India had a catastrophic second wave a few months back. Many of our employees and their loved ones were affected by the pandemic and that led me to volunteer and reach out to people in need of support.

Intel gave me this opportunity to work with the community. I got together with a few volunteers and we— with the guiding principles of health, safety, and compliance—set up the COVID-19 Care Center in Bengaluru that had beds with medical and oxygen support.


We also created the vaccination program, which provides a seamless process to vaccinate our employees and their families. For the vaccination program, we had to act in an agile, flexible, and inclusive manner adapting to the requirements of the people. For example, with many employees working remotely they were not able to access the onsite vaccination centers in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Delhi. We had to expand the number of locations through third party vaccination service providers. That helped more employees and their dependents receive vaccination. I am glad that close to 5500 people have benefitted from our vaccination program to date.

Q: Is there another global challenge you contribute to (either by yourself or with Intel)?
A: As an Intel Involved volunteer for over 15 years, community volunteering is close to my heart, especially in the education and sustainability space. Two projects I worked on with other employee volunteers and members of the community stand out. The first is the Green School Project, an environmental education initiative for biodiversity conservation in the hilly terrains of South India. The other project focused on providing quality education to children in rural areas of South India who do not have access to education or technology. To see the happiness on the faces of children makes the efforts undertaken worthwhile.

Q: If Intel reaches its 2030 goals, what do you hope life looks like in 2030?
A: I envision 2030 as a time with no digital divide, where everyone has access to technology. In addition to that, everyone has access to affordable healthcare, good quality education and a green and sustainable world to live in. At Intel, it is our responsibility to create a better world for our future generation and I am proud to be a part of it.
