Developing new serial digital interface (SDI) products has been streamlined with the Intel® SDI II FPGA reference design that utilizes the latest Intel Agilex® FPGAs and the Nextera VIDIO 12G SDI FMC card. Together, the Intel Agilex F-tile devices and Nextera FMC card provide an easy and cost-effective platform to develop new products without the need for configuration software.

When paired with the VIDIO 12G SDI FMC card, the Intel Agilex FPGA supports SDI up to 12G with or without an external voltage-controlled crystal oscillator (VCXO). These features are also available on Intel Stratix® 10 FPGAs and Intel Arria® 10 FPGAs. The SDI II Intel FPGA intellectual property (IP) core supports HD-SDI single rate mode, 3G-SDI single rate mode, triple rate mode, and multirate mode. Triple rate mode enables SD-SDI, HD-SDI, and 3G-SDI, while multirate mode supports all the standards in triple rate mode, including 6G-SDI and 12G-SDI.

The SDI II Intel FPGA IP design examples for Intel Agilex devices feature a simulation testbench and all the hardware design files for compilation and hardware testing. When generating the design example, the IP parameter editor automatically creates the files necessary to simulate, compile, and test the design in hardware.

The Intel Agilex FPGA SDI Multi-Rate Retransmit Design Demo supports up to 16 independent channels running on a single tile – 2X more than what is possible in Intel Stratix 10 and Intel Arria 10 FPGAs. In addition, Intel offers SDI II reference designs and application notes for Intel Stratix 10 and Intel Arria 10 FPGAs using the VIDIO 12G SDI FMC card.

The VIDIO 12G SDI FMC card supports most of Intel FPGA development boards featuring the high pin count (HPC) FMC connector and provides an effective platform to rapidly develop new SDI products. Utilizing the latest Texas Instruments 12G technology, it offers the highest quality interfacing for Intel devices and is capable of driving 100 meters of 8281 coax and still perform within SMPTE jitter specs. The VIDIO 12G SDI FMC card powers up with a ready-to-use default configuration without the need for configuration software. In addition, it comes with schematics, gerbers, bill of materials, PCB fabrication, assembly drawings, and more to accelerate time to market for new product designs.
