Question on programming of Intel

Hi,

I have an existing card having a WS82574 Ethernet chip with an obsolete SPI Flash ATMLH726 as its NVM. 

I dumped the image of the flash with the EEPROMAccessTool with the following command : 

sudo ./EepromAccessTool -dump -NIC=1

The dumped image file is 32kbit and has MAC address at the start address.

Then I replaced the ATMLH726 with a Microchip SST25VF010A 1Mbit SPI flash and tried to write the dumped image file back to  the blank SST25VF010A flash with the command : 

sudo ./EepromAccessTool -NIC=1 -f=filename.otp

. Thereafter I execute command 

sudo ./EepromAccessTool -dump -NIC=1

to check if the programming is successfully. The return dump image file has all 0XFF as its content, indicating the content is still empty and the programming is not successful.

In case that it is a third-party design, please give the part number, model, name of the manufacturer, and where it is stated the information related to it. On the other hand, could you please clarify if the affected design has been reviewed by Intel in case that it is your design?

​Hi,

The affected unit was designed by a third-party company Connect Tech Inc. Card name is Astro Carrier for NVIDIA® Jetson™ TX2/TX2i/TX1.

There is a Intel Ethernet chip WS82574 on board this card.  EEPROM Access Tool was used to dump its flash data to a OTP file successfully. I replaced the flash with a blank flash SST25VF010A and tried to program the blank flash with the OTP file but it wasn't successful.

The current testing with Connect Tech Inc Astro Carrier for NVIDIA® Jetson™ TX2/TX2i/TX1 is to check if the SST25VF010A flash can be programmed with Intel EEPROM Access Tool. I have designed my  own card which will have Nvidia TX2, Intel WS82574 and SST25VF010A flash but it is still not ready for the test and thus I am using Astro Carrier to test EEPROM Access Tool on SST25VF010A flash. 

EEPROM Access Tool can dump and program the original flash ATMLH726 on board Astro Carrier but it failed to do so for SST25VF010A flash.

Thus I feel that it should be within Intel Ethernet team's knowledge to advise. Please help to forward to specialist who can advise. Thank you.

Could you please confirm that the Flash replacement that you are using fulfills the requirements stated in section 3.3.2, on pages 53 and 54 of the Intel(R) 82574 GbE Controller Family Datasheet document # 317694?

Hello Maecenas_INTEL,

The replacement flash is SST25VF010A, it is recommended as compatible flash part in Table 27 of the said document.

As ATMLH726 is an obsolete part from ATMEL, I cannot find any information/datasheet about its size and thus not able to get a same size part to replace it.

Please refer to my 1st message on how I dumped the contents of ATMLH726 with EEPROM Access Tool and found the dump data size is 32kbit. This is small for a SPI flash.

Could you please try to reproduce the cited situation using the Intel I210, I211, and X550 EEPROM Access Tool (EAT) version 0.7.7 document # 57216, and Intel 82574 Gigabit Ethernet Controller Production Sample Validation Kit [SVK] Silicon Sample Kit document # 377520, also inform the results?
